If the eye in the sky is watching you...

...should it be obvious - telephones ringing, eyes from the pit, etc. as you move from pit to pit?

My partner and I had some AC heat recently (no half shoes or shuffles, though) and we were wondering if the eye was following us from pit to pit. He has more experience than me (he's been doing this for 15 years) and said it would be obvious from the pit's reaction.

Comments?

The truth is there really is no way to know for sure. One way is to always err on the side of caution and assume they are watching. Especially since you are known in AC.

If you're getting a skill check, it's probably because someone called them. IF you are in the middle of a skill check, the pit will follow you around. If not, they probably aren't watching you much, they're probably watching procedures, rating dealers, making sure bums aren't robbing people, making sure dealers aren't stealing, staring at girls asses, trying to win the "find the ugliest woman on your shift" competition. Spotting counters is usually very low on surveillance's to do list unless they've been called in for a skill check.

I had an incident that scared the **** out of me a few weeks ago, though. I'm sitting at a table, and the boss picks up the phone, and then after a few seconds looks right at me with a surprised look, starts laughing like she caught someone with their hand in the cookie jar, and pointing at me. I was like "crap, I'm caught", and was about to get up to leave. Then I realize, SHE'S POINTING AT THE BOSS AT A PIT BEHIND ME! He had prank-called her from across the pit, and I was situated exactly in her line of vision to him.

You know, one thing that is annoying is pits where some critter is on the phone virtually all the time. Too many falst positives.

What you want to watch for is the pit making a call, then someone new showing up shortly thereafter and beaming your table. Don't mistake that for the regular PB just taking a break though. If the regular PB stays in addition to the new suit, I'd worry a little.

That's what happened in the first pit, but when we moved elsewhere, didn't see anything of note.

Make you feel safe and secure

If they are going to evaluate you from the eye, the agressive pit who stares at you is possibly doing you a great favor by making you uncomfortable when you should be uncomfortable. From the casino point of view, he is an unproductive idiot!
The phone call upstairs should have been made away from you, not looking towards you and not right after leaving your area. After that, why watch you, let the eye do their job and either give the player room or even falsely befriend him. The less you give the player to think about, the more likely he will play his normal game and can be evaluated.

Fortunately, many pits think they need to somehow be involved at this point and will tip us off, but the above can be done with little or no hint.
