If you knew your next card was an Ace....

How much would you bet?
Table max?
1% of BR
10% of BR

Without going into details, I ran into this "problem" recently, accordingly i did bet above my max bet (count was neutral).

I was torn with how much to bet though.... Should I have bet every chip I had on the table? I almost did... even if it exceeded my max bet? Without going into all the ROR details, someone tell me what they would have bet / what I should have bet.

an ace gives a 50% edge right?

...and I did get a 10 to go with my ace.

I'd probably bet max especially if you have a replenishable bankroll/You aren't betting you're entire trip bank roll. Might be a good idea make sure you have additional cash on hand as you are fairly likely to get a double down too.

If you know you're first card is going to be an ace you have approx. a 50% advantage on that particular hand (Given a true count of 0) ...even higher with a positive count.

More than max bet anyway probably lol easy to say lol - no one answer - as much as you could stand to lose assuming worst case since it's a one-time shot I assume. Hard to resist being a little bolder than normal lol.

Not sure I'd bet 20% of my roll on 1 hand since I guess I could lose 40% of it if I doubled or had to split. Or even 10%.

If you had only known that 10 was coming lol.

I would bet 25% of my BR, but then I'm a wimp. zg
Seriously? lol.

Which bankroll is that? The one you brought to the table lol. I could go along with that maybe. lol.

thanks for all the thoughts, esp zen and shaddy o'malley.

it was really one of these situations that unless i was prepared for it, or read about it happening somewhere before, i didn't know the right move. the situation that came up was so so so so bizarre on EVERY level.

I guess i won't go into the specifics other than it was a dealer error, the real details are more interesting, but perhaps one of you will encounter some good fortune like this in the future and make the right move without thinking. it might be 1 in a million, who knows what else could happen.

table max was 15% of my replenishable BR, if it happened again, i would have pushed it all out there.

what's the edge if your first card is a 10???

Leave enough for split or double.

About 25% of the Ace edge. zg

Yeah, I like that.

A tremendous spike in your bet to table max might very well be your last play of the session, so the real goal is to not run out of money on that hand. And since many places don't allow resplitting aces, I'd probably take half of everything I had on me and bet it.

Actually... it might be worthwhile to forget about the possiblity of a split double, and just push it all in there. Not sure how the math would work on that.

You should read the '42.08' article by James Grosjean.

I actually got kicked out of my first casino in such a situation.Dealer hit a soft 17 and drew an Ace. I had 20,so she went to pay me. I pointed out that she shouldn't have hit,as the table was stand on all 17s. She laughed it off until I insisted that that was my card and I wanted it.Two pitbosses got involved and they ended up giving it to me.I guess they were expecting me to bet the same $10 I'd been betting, and were taken aback when I bet something like $250 instead.Pitboss told me if I did that,it was the last hand I'd ever play in his casino.I played it,won and left. Two weeks later I played with the same dealer and PB without incident.

Honesty doesnt pay..lol

If I accidentally saw that the next card was going to be a Ace, I would respectully tell the dealer, that it wouldnt be fair since I knew the next card was an Ace. Not!!!!!!

One of the benefits of sitting at first base with a sloppy dealer.
