Hello, I bought a few books on this subject a few years ago. I never realy learned to count. I recently read an article that says your edge even with counting is extremly small. Before I put too much time into trying to learn this very difficult sounding skill I have some questions.

1 Because you never know how many cards are in the "shoe" on the internet, is it even possible to count on the internet?

2 What kind of hourly rate can you expect with a biggining counter who is maybe not perfect but reasonably good?

3 what kind of bankroll is required?

4 with rumors of these "continues card shufflers" is it even worth learning this now?

No because they usually shuffle after every hand. The only way to get an advantage on the internet is to get a good deposit bonus.

A general estimate would be about 1 minimum bet per hour. A reasonably good counter betting $5-$50 per hand could probably make $5 per hour, while a strong counter could make $15-$20 per hour depending on the game and his bankroll.

A rule of thumb is to have 100 maximum bets. Someone betting $5-$50 would want around a $5,000 bankroll to feel pretty safe. He doesn’t need to have all the cash immediately available, but he should know that he might need it someday.

Don’t worry about the CSMs. There are a few popping up here and there, but there are still plenty of playable games available across the country. As long as you don’t mind traveling you can find some very nice ones. Many casinos are finding out that the CSMs just aren't worthwhile.

Count carding is slow and difficult. Lets assume you get 0.5% advantage on the good hands. These will be approximately 25% of the hands. It takes 200 hands to win 1 betting unit at 0.5% advantage, and thus 800 hands to win 1 betting unit. You can stretch this to 5 units with proper spreading.

So if you are spreading $5 to $50 bets you can maybe make $25 per 800 hands seen, which will be about $5 per hour. This is if you spread properly and make no mistakes (assuming about 120ish hands per hour).

Because the variance is so large, $5 to $50 would require a bank roll of about $6,000. $10 to $100 making $10 per hour would require about $12,000.

In other words it is probably much easier to get a job to make money than to be a card counter to make money. I seriously doupt anyone here counts cards truely to make money, more so to have fun and gamble with money that never goes down.
