a buddy of mine just got back from a trip and was telling me about a casino he visited. he was playing blackjack and he was able to get in and out of the same shoe. wouldnt this give a big advantage to a counter, being able to sit out while count is low and jump right in when its high? maybe its just me, but where i've always played if you sit out a hand you have to wait til the next shoe.

Well, around here you can sit out at a shoe game and jump in whenever. Single and double deck games are no mid-deck entry. I've never seen a shoe game that you couldn't jump in mid deck as long as there is an open seat. I personally wouldn't sit at the table, see half a shoe, and jump in with big bets. That makes it more than obvious what you are doing...... But these are my opinions I'm fairly new to counting anyway.... my guess is you could probably get away with it only a few times
You would also probably spend more time sitting out at the table than playing

It's not that big of an advantage. Usually by the time you Wong out of a shoe it isn't likely to turn positive again. Even if it does, you probably won't get many hands before the shuffle comes. That's why most people will find a new table when the count falls too far. If there aren't any fresh tables available it might be beneficial to stay at the same table without playing, but a fresh shoe is usually better.

I think you're answering a question about Wonging out, and then in, of a shoe (which is a small advantage). The OP asked about Wonging in, and then out, of a shoe, which is a big advantage.

And that's why some casinos won't let you enter in the middle of a shoe.

My mistake. I though he was talking about re-entering the shoe after Wonging out. Being able to backcount is probably the biggest advantage you can get with card counting. I wouldn’t want to play a shoe game without it.
