Insurance and even money

It amazes me that the same people who take even money on blackjack think insurance is a sucker's bet. What they don't realize is that taking even money IS insurance.

The other night, I had a dealer that actually said "would you like to take insurance for even money?" when the dealer had an Ace showing. I never heard any dealer ever say it that way.

On a video BJ machine, there actually is a small difference between the two.
Say you are betting $10 and the dealer shows an Ace, if you take even money, your bet for the hand is recorded as being $10. If you insure the hand, your bet is recorded as $15. A small difference but one that adds up over the course of a weeks vacation.

I hope you are playing this machine on triple or quadruple cashback days shad!

Admittedly too advanced for you, but for a Pro Player, or someone playing with a dubiously-sized bankroll, or someone looking to add a bit of “camouflage play”, taking Even Money on a BJ is a good play for reducing variance.

What they normally say is "Would anyone like to take insurance OR even money?". Are you sure that he didn't say THAT and you misheard him?

You know, it is possible that I misheard. I listened to him several times say it, and that's what was so surprising to me. I've been playing for over 15 years and this was the first time my attention was caught like this.
