Is this normal?

I went to the casino last night to try backcounting (using hi-lo) and was planning on wonging-in when the count got good enough. I counted through four shoes at one table (the spots were full anyways so it looked like I was just waiting), left that table and went to another full table to count four more shoes, then back to the other table to count three more before a spot opened up. In those 11 shoes, I never counted a single RC higher than +2, and that isn't TC, that's RC. I sat down finally and went through two shoes and the count in the second shoe had a RC of +4 at one point, but that was the highest it got in 13 shoes. I was used to having a RC of -15 or more.

Is that normal?

It's normal, but it's unusual. Generally about 1-in-5 shoes turn positive, but bad penetration can make a plus count even more rare. It depends on how many decks are used and how deep the cut is.

Not to long ago I was playing a autoshuffled 8d 75% game for just over 3 hrs. I was using a 5-150 spread. Not once did the count go high enough for me to raise my bet over $50. I have never seen anything like it. It seemed like the machine wasn't even shuffling the cards.

Yoy were trying to spread 1-30? A bit extreme, wasn't it?
Nope, not in Canada. I have spread from 5-300. The ploppys at my table made a big deal, but the suits didnt give me a second glance.

It was six decks, and the cut was a little bit more than a deck... probably 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 decks.
