The article says that up to 5 percent of gamblers could become addicts. I’ve seen other sources that say 4 percent. I expect the percentage would be even lower (but not zero) for APs, who actually understand the game they are playing, or should. That’s why whenever someone says that we’re all gambling addicts, or at risk of becoming addicts, I think it’s a bunch of BS.

That's true. We, as AP's are probably not likely to become addicted by the definition in the article.

The part I found interesting is where they show that the brain reacts to near wins in the same way it does to real wins. Thus providing a false sense that the real win is about to happen. Sort of feeds into the gamblers fallacy.
