I've gone to the dark side of the force (well not really)

I had an opportunity to work part time as a blackjack dealer, (don't worry it's not in a casino) and I have to say it is probably the most fun part time job there is. It beats the stress of being an AP any day. I get to work in smoke free environments, get paid the same amount (or more) as a lot of dealers do in casinos, deal with upscale citizens who are mostly members of large companies or professional groups, get free food and drinks, and have a chance to network with some big wigs. In addition because the players aren't playing with real money, I don't have to deal with the crap casino dealers have to deal with. Personally, I do it mainly for fun for a few hours a week.

I only mention this because if any of you are looking for extra cash this holiday season, you may want to look into doing this as there are entertainment companies out there that need help...

Dealing a charity game is a whole different ball game.

No asshole drunks. No shot takers trying to squeeze you for 10 bucks. No lowlifes sweating their miserable $15 bet. Nobody trying to peek at your hole card ;)

I dealt charity games for about a year. Believe me, I met plenty of drunk assholes. On one occasion a player reached over the table, took my holecard, showed it to the whole table then threw it back at me. It's amazing what some people will do when they know there are no security guards around. I won't even mention the time I was dealing craps at a bar mitzvah.

On the other hand, we dealt an amazing BJ game. SD, S17, DAS, penetration as deep as we wanted and BJ pays 2:1 (I guess they thought the 3:2 payouts were too complicated). And most people still managed to lose all of their chips!

I would lose all my chips too if they're not worth anything.

I would goof off and make dumb plays. And I would definitely not try to count. Then again I would never be at one of those games. I spend enough time in casinos already, playing blackjack isn't fun anymore. Not to mention charity is like the definition of -ev. You pay something and get nothing in return.

The guy wasn't peeking at your hole card though ;). He blatantly grabbed it

Part time target?

I will agree with shadroch wholeheartily that you may be in for more than you bargained for. The carny games that charities put on are bad enough but couple that with people of stature and oh brother watch out. I think it depends on the type of people but think about it. Here is the vp of some company use to telling people to jump and they say how high. Here you are thinking they are out just for a fun night and it means nothing. Think again! I bar tended at a party center for years that had alot of important people at these events and they are double jerks when drunk and you are dealing to them when they look like losers. I'm interested to see how things turn out please let us know. Hey ZG what does a Santa Buddha look like?

you are refering to corporate parties? It's holiday season and I've attended few of them. It's fun that I can sit on the table and teach /evaluate my friend counting skill. As no one care about virtual money..

Do these people tip (real money) to you? If they do paying their busted hands in exchange for tips isn't a bad idea.

Or give up the hole card

You mean that's not allowed? Seriously, I've flirted with that (and you'd get away with it a few times in AC too) but I wouldn't throw a card at the dealer. But literally throwing a dealer a toke while he is dealing his holecard can have interesting effects. It's fun when he's picking up the bets too. :cool2:

Holecard play has an overall advantage of 15% but if you reserve dirty tricks only for certain hands (after you have seen your cards but before the dealer takes his holecard) the advantage on those hands is much larger, and you get a bigger return on whatever misbehavior you had to do to get a glimpse.

A bris would have been worse. Whatever you do, don't accept a tip!

I'm pretty sure you would be in big trouble in Ac if you grabbed the dealer's hole card. Especially since you're not allowed to touch ANY cards.

You might get away with it ONCE if you have just a small bet up. Doing that would probably constitute cheating and you'll most likely be kicked out.

If you ever do decide to grab the hole card, please let me know which casino and which table at what time. I'd like to be there to watch :)

I've watched people cap bets in AC and the dealer just pushes it back and tells them to stop.

And of course, if I did something like that I would have a minimum bet in. But someone else at the table would have a maximum bet in.

That's TOTALLY different. I've seen people cap and pinch bets all the time (and a lot of times the dealer doesn't notice heh). Dumb ploppies do that once in a while.

Like I said. If you're going to grab the dealer's hole card I want to watch the show :)

So far no tips unfortunately. I've been a killer dealer at the tables even with 2-1 bj being offered. Then again the players are complete ploppies. Imagine a whole table full of people who hit 15 v a dealer 5.:laugh:

Well so far so good. I have to say the experience is far better than what dealers feel in AC or other casinos. People are a lot more relaxed. Most of the events tend to be charity or corporate in nature so I get a much better crowd in terms of behavior than what you see in the casinos.
