with this system, if i just keep a running count starting at 0, then the critical count is 16, right?

Basically i'm wondering if there is a reason why I can't keep the numbers positive, and bet my max when the running count is 16 or higher

please let me know any/all faults with this approach.

Yes you can customize your IRC to start at 0 and the key will be at 16 that is correct. However you will not want to maximize your bet at 16 which is the key count. The key count only gives you a slight edge so at this point you will want to start ramping up your bet and your max bet should be at or just below the pivot which will be at 24 when you have a sizable edge.

As SystemTrader said, there is a difference between the key count and the pivot point. Buy knockout blackjack to learn about it. You'll have tons of new questions that can easily be answered by reading the book, and if you're serious you'll buy the book eventually anyway.

Obviously, you haven't bought the book. It's a good investment if you're serious about using KO. There's more to it than just the count. There's ramping your bet, modifying BS based on the count, etc.
