Learning environment

I've been gradualy learning KO Preferred using the online trainer here and recently looked into an area casino. I think it's table rules for DD are typical for others in the area, at least for low stakes games: Hand held, Double any first two cards, noDAS, no Sur, Ins., Limits $5-500. I'm struggling with basics, being challenged to stay on the count and figure out my play. The pace of the play is very relaxed, so it seems like a good learning environment. I played for three hours one day and came out $250 ahead after dropping down about $150. I don't attach any significance to that other than I can hang on while losing the count and going to BS and making some playing mistakes like not standing on 15 vs dealer 10 on a +5 count. But my question concerns penetration which is a measly 50-60%. Am I wasting my time playing in this setting while improving my game (I'm finally getting CV), or is this a reasonable setting to check into from time to time while I'm learning inm spite of the bad pen.? I didn't look at the 6D game but I believe they allow DAS but no Sur. I imagine the penetration there isn't too great either.

while improving your game, yes. if your casino exp is low then it might be good to practice KO, just for the environment.

with such lousy pen, you wont see enough action to make it worth your time moneywise. like shooting pool with rope.

The best place to start learning is at home. Buy a few decks of cards or use software to develop your skills. Don’t put your money at risk until you are a stronger player. Once you can play flawlessly at home you are ready to try playing with all of the distractions of a casino environment.

By that time you should also know how to spot a good game, so that will make your casino experience even easier.

That looks like a decent game. You didn't mention if it was S17 or H17. 60% penetration is not bad for DD game especially if it is a S17 game.

Yes, it is S17.

NoDAS is pretty lame, though.

You may want to consider looking at some shoe games, just to see if they're easier/harder to count. In either case, just observing the games and backcounting can be a good way to ease into keeping up. You've still got all the distractions of the casino environment, but you don't have to keep up with tallying your own hand or making play decisions.

You getting CV will really help. You can set it up to the exact game, rules, BS, counting system, and practice at
home for free. The flashcard drills are really useful to helping you to build your speed and accuratrcy.
