The other week i made a discovery. not a new one per se but an adaptation of an old one:
I've been in business for myself a looonnngg time. Early on I developed regular clients (construction). Now as my base of clients grew I began to "cherry pick" who I would work for. I wasn't starved for business any longer and could afford to dump customers who were cheap or were just more bother than the next guy was.
Also meant that I didn't need to offer low prices to my new customers just to pay the rent. In fact one of the things that makes it hard for a businessman to stay afloat are nuisance clients who drive them nuts and deliver little if any profit.
So toward the middle of my career I found that the days I made the most money weren't out in the field fixing things but at home on the phone. Either accepting contracts or rejecting them. While no money was even tossed back and forth on those days the expected return was greatly increased down the line.
It seems to me that the networking and inventory of casino visits must be important. In other words: When I check the landscape for better games down the road I'm actually making more money doing that than splitting nines four times and doubling twice.
So: It is my idea locate a whole ton of casinos within three hundred miles South (or North, East etc.) then rent a car, burn some fossil fuels and see what kind of games each house has. While I'm gone will take some money to play but am more concentrated/focused on finding the places i like. This is how the trip will pay for itself.
Sure we can advise each other of the better games and exchange info among ourselves. This will reduce or increase the list of places we will go.
Like we won't bother with Ho Ko Pah (or whatever it is) in Ukiah, CA because they pay even money on most naturals. But we will check out "so & so" because they offer low minimums, good deck penetration etc.
But a lot of it will still be road work.
OK now after I've completed this loop. I start back at page one but won't be wasting time. i have a list of the joints to visit and hope to make decent money at least two thirds of the time.
A "Six week low to medium stakes strategy" which can then be repeated without running risk of much heat or observation. Later on new areas will be discovered maybe further down the pike.
