lost my bankroll yesterday

i am a college student and beginner in blackjack. still under 10 visit to the casino. just mastered the BS and i decided to gamble big last night, with a bad strike, i was betting 25-150 a hand, i lost $2000 straight within 30 mins. it really make me feel like a dumbass for betting that big with such tiny bankroll lol.

If you enjoy Blackjack, the other alternative is to master basc strategy and accept that you will lose, but not as much as other casino games.

Sorry to hear you lost your BR. Some people just have to learn the hard way before they learn the correct way.

That's exactly what you did, gambled. How did you know when to raise your bet to 150, some betting progression? You say you mastered BS, now its time to learn a counting strategy. There are some great threads here to help guide your way. It doesnt mean the next time you play armed with the knowledge of a count that you will win, but your chances of coming out ahead will be greater.

Concentrate on your education, get a job, make money, then attempt the AP life. Forget about it for now.

This is the power of movies like 21, and series like OCC.

yeah. with basic strategy, i usually flatbet and just recently i started using counting at casinos.

I still don't have the balls to put it 3 units at +3 or all in at +10 or whatever haha....

but at least i'm still in the green and i'm learning alot in the process. Keep practicing, check the forums everyday and you'll start to improve

These are some of the pages i go on to practice a little bit:

With $2000 you should be playing no more than $5 minimums and shouldn't be playing a single hand in a negative count!

Concentrate on your education, get a good job (one that does not involve the use of the word "vente"), make good money (enough so that you can start funding a 401k, save for a down payment, give generously to your family in times of need, and still have enough left over to build a bankroll), and then attempt the AP life after carefully reading and practicing.

yes but he is a basic strategy player and has no idea how to count. $2000 to a bs player can feel like 10k to a counter... give or take a few k......

What is AP and EV?
AP = advantage play, where you have the mathematical edge over the house in the long run; or advantage player

EV = expected value, the fraction of each dollar bet that you can expect to win in the long run

So an AP would have an EV greater than 0.

Don't feel too bad - small roll, big bets=very high chance of losing it all.

Compare to a "card-counter" with $10K spreading 1-6 with a $125 unit (same 80 unit roll). He has the same ~100% certainty of losing it all too.

Except he still likely thinks he's a very unlucky genius whereas you, more realistically and honestly, call yourself a dumbass.

Whatever, whoever you are, BS player, AP player, try to still balance risk vs reward vs roll vs time lol.

One must fall, so that he can get back up. After playing like a ploppy, now you may see the light that Blackjack can be beaten, but using different strategy than you were previously using.

True but he is spreading?

Why does a BS player spread?
He wants to maximize his hot streak. Of course this is based on no math but a lucky feeling. Sometimes he gets lucky, often he does not.

He has lost a few in a row and now feels he is due. Of course he is not due and the result can easily be a quick loss of his bankroll.

The result is either way, he is a good casino customer.
