low limit tables on the rise!

Is it me or other casinos starting to increase the number of low limit tables recently. I noticed this the past month at the casinos that I fequent out east that they put out a few more lower limit tables than usual. I think the economy is dictating to the casinos you want action lower the limits or suffer the end results. This is a good thing for beginners with a limited bankroll that cannot afford the grind. Has anyone noticed out west if the tables have started to change their limits. blackchipjim

It looks like the casinos are finally figuring out how to take advantage of the movie 21. They will get hordes of low limit players who think they know what they’re doing but are really losing more money than the average players. Since most casinos don’t have to worry about a card counter spreading $5-$50 per hand (maybe making $4 per hour), they can even leave the good players alone. If anything it will encourage the bad players to keep playing. Their hold will be much higher simply because they are catering to more bad players. If they can offer low limit games and keep the tables full it will attract all the wannabe card counters and drive away the skillful players. I can’t believe it took them this long to figure that out! :rolleyes:

There are many things they have yet to figure out. For example, losing more money by cutting off 2+ decks of 6, to thwart maybe one counter among hundreds of players, with all the added downtime from additional shuffles...

And surrender! Late surrender helps both counters and casinos. For every counter who knows when to surrender 14 vs. 9 there are dozens of players who will surrender 16 or 12 vs. 7.

F*** you, I only play at true counts of +35 or higher, so surrendering 12 vs. 7 is always the right play.

Interesting, I was just wondering if it was the area I was in lately, or if it was everywhere. $3.00 tables (3-50) where last year were only offered on Tuesday morning, are now certain times every day of the week.

Too bad the rules suck, it would have at least been a diversion....

I'm wondering if places like AC are finding business is down because gas is so f***ing expensive, so they need to offer a bit of an incentive to bring in people.

Is this being noticed in local joints too, or just places where people are more likely to travel and not have closer casinos? I haven't been to the local places in a while, so can't say.

OTOH: what Sonny says about them finally figuring they can make some money on $5 tables with the wannabees makes some sense. I can think of a lot of times it seemed like non-locals would look at the $15 minimum and go play the slots. Maybe they also figure $5 mins can bring in some fresh blood ... especially during summer tourist season.

yup jim i've been seeing it as well. even found a DD game with lower limits where that had never been the case.
i was thinking the same thing about the economy being a factor.
also been noticing csm's disappearing as well.

Out of interest, how much is a gallon of diesel in the States at the moment ?

You must mean for regular. newb99 asked about diesel, for some reason. Regular is much cheaper than diesel here.

Speaking of which, didn't diesel used to be cheaper than regular?

doh. yeah diesel up over $4.
yeah back in the energy crisis folks were buying diesel cars cause it was cheaper. :rolleyes:

Count your blessing my sons . . . . In the UK diesel is £1.30 per litre - thats around $11.00 a gallon.

You can see why a 100 mile round trip to play cards (at 28 miles to the gallon) eats into the EV when playing a £5.00 min table.

In the UK, tipping of the table staff is strictly prohibited (rules of the gambling commission) otherwise I'd feel obliged to add to the pain by tipping a quid or two now and again - or eat my words from an earlier posting.

I can see a point in the not too distant future where it'll be relatively cheaper to take advantage of an airline promo and fly into Las Vegas, than drive to the 180 miles to Birmingham or London and back.

Diesel here in New York is about $4.80/Gal and regular is about $4.17 .... You might shave 20 or 30 cents off that at the Indian reservations, but they are out of the way for most people.

The annoying thing is those prices are $1 - $1.50 over a year ago.

Yes, Americans have always been lucky on gas prices compared to our European friends. That's why so many people drive gas guzzling SUV or Hummers instead of the eco-cars you see in UK and Europe. That may be changing, but not for long if past gas spikes are any indication.

I believe part of that is the difference in the tax structure. Not sure why they haven't revolted, but that could be the "Ugly American" syndrome again, the 'do it our way or you're wrong'.

It's actually been a benefit for me, because before this I would play the mediocre games and be happy with breaking even or slightly ahead. Now I can't afford to play anything BUT the favorable ones! So, I guess the bright side of the gas problem is in forcing me to be more disciplined! I'm even finally starting to consider how to learn more AP than just counting!:grin:

back to the matter at hand. yes lower limits are everywhere to be found out in the west. California Indian Casinos have lowered limits quite a bit. $5 tables are everywhere now.

one joint use to be $10 mins, now has 5, 10, 15, 25 and i was told 3 mid week early early am. casinos have been packed.

Lower limits

I have noticed that there are a lot of $5 and under games in the Reno and Lake Tahoe area. I also noticed that a lot of casino lowered the maximum bet from $500 to $200 to $300. They are starting to sweat the big action.
