Mindplay is retarded!

I was analazing somebody's play when I was dealing to him and he would make stupid mistakes like stand on a 16 vs an 8. This is on six decks mind you. But he happened to be winning for that session so mindplay flagged him down as a possible card counter. I told the pit that he wasn't a card counter though. The guy is probably playing with a 3% disadvantage and it flags him as a possible card counter. He had some verance in his bet but not much though.
The CBC just added 4 new tables and non of which have mindplay on them.

Cardcounter:

I have written before about big wins and no detection while playing against Mindplay.
The thing will sometimes catch a novice and as you stated flag a loser.
It really was not designed primarily to catch cardcounters. It was designed to eliminate some of the pit and eye jobs while cutting comps to your customers.
It slows down the game, it chases losing players away and it was one prime reason why blackjack died at the Hilton in Vegas.

Companies like Alliance/Bally gaming are not stupid. They know their product does not work very well but they also know that if you pitch enough casinos with a product that appeals to both their greed and paranoia, some casinos will buy.

It is not only Mindplay that is retarted

Casinos that purchase Mindplay are lead by the retarted.

I'm wondering how it could return a false positive, that seems pretty crazy.

Any chance he was (accidentally) raising his bets in high counts, but just playing like a donk?

Betting patterns!

The mind play machine only picks up betting patterns. Once there was guy betting with the count but he had a horrible playing stragedy. On 11 he doubled for only half of his bet. He would stay on stiffs vs a 7 or an 8 and hit the stiffs if a 10 was showing. However he would bet like 10 times more in positive counts than in negative ones. The mindplay machine pegged him as a counter. But as a counter myself I did not peg him as cardcounter because he made to many bad plays in my opinion. If I peg a card counter in my mind he has to both bet probably and play properly. I will sometimes ignore a border line play in my assesment but I will not ignore big mistakes.

In my opinion an assement of card counting without taking into account player mistakes is completely useless. There could be and are losing players out there who bet with count don't play properly and are expected to lose in the game.

How do u rate the cost of camouflage? I hope this guy was doing a lot more than just standing on 16's vs 8's to merit a 3% disadvantage.

I thought mindplay knew every card that was played along with amt bet. No? But I've never seen it.

Anyway, what did they do after he's identified by Mindplay as a "possible counter"? Watch him more carefully? Immediately ban him? Just shuffle up?

How long was he playing before Mindplay came up with that?
