My second time ever playing blackjack.

Well a few months ago i went to the casino and i did horrible at bj and lost. I did not loose much because i did not bet much but i angered people at the table because my poor choice on when to hit and stand affected them or the dealer.

Well i memorized and efficiently played perfect basic strategy on my second visit. I have been practicing a little bit of card counting but i am not good at that yet.
Well with playing bs i came out even with the casino. The thing is playing bs i still angered the other players. This asian lady kept getting mad and blaming me taking a card which she would of got if i did not take it caused her to loose her hand. She was loud, rude and laughed at every move i made even though i was the one that was doing better than her. I guess playing basic strategy, other players at the table see that as you making stupid moves. I dont know if it was just that table or have other people had these experiences?

Then on a side note. I did not realize how easy card counting was. Just simple add 1 and subtract 1 and to get the true count, I have not looked at but it looks like they just divide by the number of decks in the shoe. I will have to research how you get the true count if that is wrong.

Glad to here your learning BS, this will improve your game no end and reduced the house edge down to around 0.5% depending on the rules of the game you are playing.

Ploppies will always blame somebody or something else for their lack of abilities or bad luck. If anyone is giving you hassle just tell them to mind their own business, it's your money and you will play however you wish, if they don't like it, they can find another table. If their still hassling you, ask the dealer or pit boss to get them to leave you alone.

Don't worry to much amount counting cards just yet, first make sure your can play BS perfectly, make sure you are learning the correct BS for the game you are planning on playing for real. Practice on trainer software, there's a good one on this site:- http://www.blackjackinfo.com/bst/bst.htm once you're 100% confident that you can play BS perfectly, then take your game to the next level.

You are correct about TC conversions, just divide the running count by the number of remaining unplayed cards/decks in the shoe. This will need to be done accurately, if your not confident you can do this then instead learn an unbalanced count such at KO as mistakes can be costly.

Before you start counting in a casino, make sure you can count through 10+ shoes without any errors and a deck in less than 30 seconds. Also make sure you have carefully thought about your bankroll, have a suitable bet spread and a risk of ruin that you are happy with. I would recommend running sim's for this, powersim is free and easy to use:-http://www.blackjackforumonline.com/content/SimSimp_Beta.htm

If you're visiting any casino's in the near future, keep your bets as low as possible, until you are fully confident with your game and can do the above perfectly. Don't get carried way and get ahead of yourself as this will lead to disaster!

Best of luck,

Chris, in only your second trip, you learned that some gamblers are hopeless whiners. That often takes longer to learn. Usually 3 or 4 trips. :)

That .5 percent house edge is still alot. I ran through about 150 cards as five players against the dealer all of the players playing perfect bs. The dealer still won 3 hands for every time a player won 1 hand. ON a individual basis using perfect bs i was about even with the dealer.

Thanks right now i am just card counting for fun until i can get good at it. I dont think I will ever become a big better. I like just making the minimum bets and am happy with if i can just stay about even. It would be nice to win a little though. I dont have any ambition like other young people on this site who i have read that think they are going to be bringing in hundreds of thousands of dollars and be set for life. I think those kind of hopes are a little unrealistic and they were watching that 21 movie to much but i do know there are people out there that do take the casinos for that kind of money but they usually have a lot of money to loose or play with to begin with.

Ambition is good. If you're not putting down your money (positive or negative expectation) with some hope of winning, don't go to a casino at all.

You want ambition, but ambition tempered with a realistic plan for success. This is where most people your age (I assume the "87" in your name refers to your birth year) fail. Keep learning and practicing - you can practice for free on the Web (see the FAQ for free resources) and buy books (see the FAQ for recommendations) for $10-$15. Save up a decent bankroll (which often means getting a decent job out of college).

The short term variance is will completely overwhelm the 0.5% house advantage, which could take many thousands of hands to assert itself. After all, some people go home winners after a session at the casino, even folks playing large HA games like roulette or slots.

I mean i am the type of player that wont play with more than 100 dollars at first. I am not willing to risk thousands of my own money. If i am successful and take some winnings i might play with more but i do not want to be like some people on here who lost a few thousand of there own money.

You just have to ignore those people getting mad. you knwo your playing the best way possible and dont you change that for anyone.

The card counting basics are very simple but theres a lot more to it that add one plus one divide. You need to have the perfect bet spread, learn indicies, have great deck estimation, learn cover plays, learn how to keep count under pressure and with distractions, bankroll management, wonging techniques, backcounting chanign play for different games.. the list is endless.

That's fine, if you're not playing with an advantage, there's no reason to risk a lot of money.

In fact, even if you ARE playing with an advantage, there is no reason to risk a lot of money if you are unable or unwilling to lose it.

Welcome to the club. This is the nature of the game. Since you are probably the only one at the table playing BS just watch out about getting screwed by others on the table when you hit 16 against 7, hitting soft 18 against 10 and doubling soft 18 against 6.
