Hello guys,I'm a reader of the forum and now that I'm not so good I thought about posting to see if anyone as a good tip for me.

First of all, I'm 18 and I started to get interested in betting and stuff when I was 17, I tried all the ways possible to play poker online, but since I didn't have a credit card at the time I couldn't. As soon as I became 18 I started playing poker online, it was quite fun at the beginning I managed to get nice bankrolls saying that I started with 15 Euros, but all in a sudden I would get a bad beat, and started steaming and went all in. Then I visited the Casino Estoril (Portugal, I'm Portuguese (= ) and played 10 euros at the roulette and the minimal bet was 5 euros, I managed to leave the casino with 80 euros that I spent to hours latter in a online casino. After this kind of situations I got depressed and could only thing about never gambling again. Since I don't earn money and it's not really my money that I'm spending.

At present I'm studying at the Portsmouth University and I managed to loose about 500 euros in casinos near by and online gambling. I started reading your forums and I loved it, find a away of beating black is fascinating me.

The thing is that my bankroll sucks and I need money, so when I gamble putting a side the great thrill I have, I'm looking for a income if you know what I mean.

To be honest I don't know how can you guys help me, maybe telling me to stay away from gambling (when I mean gamble I don't mean playing a lucky shot, I mean beating the casino) and getting a part time job, but the thing is that I love to gamble, and I'm quite good at counting, but is I have a 20 and the dealer a 21 and I played like 4 times my initial bet I so pissed of that I forget about the count and I just want to get my money back.

Sorry guys about the long text. If annoy as a good suggestion I appreciate it.

THanks

Stisher

You said: "I love to gamble"

Gamblers are long-term losers. You MUST understand that.

As you are just 18 years old, there is (some) hope for you.

For a "gambler" to become an "advantage player" is an extraordinary task.

It requires a radical change to one's personality.

That requires introspection, insight, and courage.

This is not a website designed for gamblers.

The intention of Ken Smith, our benefactor, should be self-evident,

While nearly all of us are "recreational players" we seek to be "advantage players"

That means that we try to play with advantages to reduce the element of "luck" and maximize the element of "skill"

What makes "advantage players" different from "gamblers" is:

We approach "gaming" as a business venture.
We view our bankroll as "working capital"
We concern ourselves with issues of "Risk" and "Reward".
NOT as matters of excitement, fun, etc.
We do not rely on "luck". We rely on mathematics.

I wish you well.

As stated earlier

It takes a certain kind of person for this kind of venture. If by perhaps you were persuaded into this like I was, my first advice would be to find another way to make money. I was influenced by movies and stories that I heard from some recreational AP's (and yes they do exist). So just figure out what you want to get from this. There are plenty of ways to make money quick.

Loves to gamble

Someone that "loves to gamble" could be destined for a road of disaster. Atlantic City averages one "jumper" a month or so... Someone that loved gambling decided that they didn't love it quite so much any more? and does a swan dive off the top of one of the parking garages. It's not like this gets front page news so often or people hear too much of such things since casinos don't like bad press! The local publications (that get advertising dollars from the casinos) are likely to keep such things low key for some reason! Hahahhaaa

I was never a recreational gambler. I never bet on anything, never played "for fun", nothing. From the very start, I trained and began playing only upon determining viable advantage. It's all about the bottom line to me and if I have no edge, I do not gamble... period! I said to a friend recently that was busting my chops about my being conservative and not being willing to play a game "for fun" or for the purpose of "frivolous gambling", "You know... I am perfectly willing to bet on a horse race--- as long as I can FIX THE RACE!" In my eyes, doing any sort of "frivolous gambling" with no positive expectation is sort of like defying a sacred code of conduct of sorts.

There is some fine line out there that is the boundary between a recreational gambler and a professional gambler. One derives great enjoyment relying upon "lady luck", is deriving enjoyment from the act of gambling itself and the other is focused on theory, math, hard work, tediously mind-taxing studies all to achieve a bottom line with no enjoyment coming from the gambling itself (but certainly some enjoyment at achieving that bottom line!). The gambling part of the equation is only a means to an end for a professional player. This is why it is incredibly difficult for recreational gamblers to become bona fide "AP"s--- All the thrill is lost and gone. You are following a regimented plan according to the math that requires being on the ball, you are avoiding the insane risk-taking that the recreational gambler does. There is no "golden brass ring", no "pot of gold at the end of the rainbow", no nothing... only a matter of grinding away for a small percentage of advantage that with a LOT of hard work will turn a small long-term profit.

Let's say I have two people before me and I have to pick one to train to be an advantage blackjack player (not that I would want to do this-this is hypothetically speaking)...

-One is an avid gambler that has played lots of casino games, knows a lot about gambling, has played blackjack for years among many other games and "loves to gamble". He even proclaims to be quite a gambling whiz-bang!

-One is someone that is mathematically inclined to a great degree, has excellent eyesight, depth perception and gauging ability but has never gambled before in any way, shape or form and perhaps even ABHORS the idea of gambling.

Which one has more potential? Which one is more trainable? Which one is destined to be the most successful? I think we all know the answers to these questions. Many of the recreational gamblers that come to this site are here to learn to play better blackjack primarily because they are perhaps tired of getting their ass kicked but enjoy gambling. My speculation is that the typical recreational player may be able to get more on the ball than they were but will find it difficult to get past a "gamblers mentality" to evolve into an "advantage players mentality" than someone who tackled it from the standpoint of a "advantage play potential" from the very start. It's a hurdle that chops out all the glamour, glitz and fun out of the equation and replaces it with hard work, the need for self-control, diligence, extensive studies, etc. for a determinable, finite and potentially small return on an investment.

I think in going along with what others have said is that card counting is not a path to vast riches. It is hard work and will test every fiber in you. There will be times where you get absolutely demolished and you will have to resist betting more to in hopes of making up those losses. Can you handle months of losing? Do you have a huge bankroll as in $10,000+? Fact is many people try to card count but the vast majority fail. Be honest to yourself.

My understanding of AP blackjack is I need a large bank in order to stay in the game. But if I have a large bank, I will not want to play this damn game.
