I am about to release a new high-speed blackjack simulator and index generator for Mac OS X 10.4.x and 10.5.x (see my sig for the site link). At this point I'm not quite sure whether I will need additional staff to handle support issues. Of course this is directly related to how many users we will eventually have, but when the program is released next week or so I don't want us to be caught off guard at launch. One thing that will give me an idea of the support volume we might expect is to get a feel for how many people on this forum are interested in the program.

So please vote in the poll, but only vote if you have a newer (OS X) Mac. PC users voting "not interested" will just pollute the results. Based on the responses compared to the traffic this forum receives, it will at least give me a general idea.

Post in the thread or PM me if you have any questions.

Thanks!

I apologize if this sounds rude, but if you believe you might need additional staff, you do not have a realistic understanding of the field. This is a low volume area. Always has been and always will be.

No need to apologize, I realize it's a low volume field. "QFIT", you must be Norm? You are indeed the expert in the field as well, so any input you offer is greatly appreciated.

When I say "staff", I meant 1 other person. I and my other programmer will be very busy the next few weeks, and I thought it might be a good idea to hire somebody on a temp basis to screen support issues that didn't require the eyes of a programmer.

i put im not interested but only cus i dont have a mac

if it were a pc simulation that was reviewed by pro BJ players or just mathematicians that have a full understanding on how all hte math works then id be interested

i would like to see a really complex ROR calculator. where u can input ur playing strategy (the count system and chart you use. also wonging/backcounting), betting strategy, units, maximum bet, goal, rules, penetration, and anything else

Ok, thanks for pointing out that one of the negative votes is from a PC user so I can ignore it. I guess I should have asked that only those with Macs vote, since if you don't have a PC you wouldn't be able to use it anyway. I'll edit the first post to reflect this.

XXI will have RoR and trip RoR calculations, and will allow you to vary bets even AFTER the simulation has run. However, since you have a PC, I'd suggest BJRM, even though it hasn't been updated in about 6 years. It is a very useful tool.

CVCX does this. It also includes 150,000 canned sims as well as allowing you to run your own. Although for wonging/backcounting, post-sim calculations are not entirely accurate. CVData is required for accurate wonging calcs.

BJRM does not simulate.

Right, I know. In short, you do a flat-bet sim and input the data, then it calculates RoR, optimal bets, win rates, SCOREs, etc. When jaredmt said "really complex RoR calculator" my first thought was BJRM, since that's how I've always thought of it.

But BJRM can't do a flat-bet sim. It is not a simulator. You can't input the count system and chart you use as requested.

Yeah, I know, I guess I wasn't clear (twice). :) You have to do a flat-bet sim with an actual simulator and then input the data into BJRM, at which point it is a "complex RoR calculator". BJRM can parse the output of a simulator log file from SBA, but that's the only one I know of it can read automatically (and even then you need to "cap" the TC stat range in SBA to be from -3 to +9 before you run the sim).

Anyway, this is getting a little off-topic, which was to get some idea of how many Mac users might be interested in a simulator/generator for OS X. I've already gotten a few emails from some nice folks (thanks -- you know who you are ;)

I hope I'm not stepping on any toes in the Windows market. As a Mac user, it's been frustrating to me personally that I have to resort to Parallels or VMware emulation to run a BJ sim, which was my main motivation in starting this project. I thought others might feels the same way.

I'm an ardent mac user and own a copy of CVCX that i run through bootcamp. I personally am a big fan of CVCX, but not of windows. I'll be interested to see what comes of this endeavor and see if it brings anything different to the table to complement my use of CVCX.
