New Member Questions

We are heading to Vegas in May for the first time in several years. Our group of 6-8 will range from never played before to good knowledge of Basic Strategy. We are staying at the Rio from Sunday-Thursday.
Looking for advice & tips on where to play, where to avoid, etc. Also, any other input on what not to miss (shows, buffets, etc.) while we are there would be helpful.

Best place/time to find $5 min tables for the rookies?

Best place for $15-$25 tables?

What should I set the Strategy Trainer on to get some practice in before we get there (6 or 8 deck, hit or stand on S17, etc)?

Besides the 6:5 payoffs, what else should we avoid?

Thanks for any input and advice

avoid harrahs properties, including the rio ! while im sure i miss some unique opportunities by refusing to step into a HET property in vegas, i do it out of principle and anyways, there are plenty of playable games at other properties on the strip, like say the MGM grand.

the link for you.

$5 tables are uncommon and almost always with H17 and 8 decks OR 6/5 BJ premiums.

I posted to the FREE pages here a compilation of places with $1 and $2 tables.

On the wizardofvegas.com there is a valuable link as to where you can find every kind of BJ game on Las vegas.

This is precisely what you need:

“Avoid double deck games with no double after split.“ … except with S17 and >60% penetartion; not that you are likely to find that at low stakes.

I was there in August and saw "The Rat Pack is Back!" at the Plaza and it was really good!

However I just saw them last week in MI so I think i don't know if they have another set of guys doing it in Vegas or what right now

Thanks for the info so far, esp. FLASH for the link to the survey on WoOdds. That has all the info I was looking for.

Any other tips or advice would be appreciated.

Looking forward to learning more from the site & forums.

I just returned from Vegas. Check out the high limit room at Treasure Island. They have double deck, Stay on S17, double on any 2 cards, double after split, re-split after split, blackjack 3:2. But no surrender. They deal down to 3/4 deck remaining (cut card set by grove in discard tray). Hand shuffle. It is $25 dollars at about noon, and $50 in the evening. Wynn also has a double deck stay on S17 in there high limit room, but it is always $100.

It is not on wizard of odds. Another tip, if you are going to walk around to all the casinos to find a good game, wear sneakers. I made this mistake.

If you go, please post your observations about this game. I was surprised It was empty, which tells me the game was too good to be true. After 10 hours, I did not see them change the cards. Which is scary. They also have a single 0 roulette wheel there, the only one I have ever seen.

For your friends looking for a low limit table. I was at the Wynn, a young couple asked the pit boss for a $10 table (none at the Wynn), he took them over to a empty $25 shoe game and told the dealer to let them bet only $10. Try this instead of going to a dump casino.
