Newbie BS question: 7,7 vs 10 (1 deck, S17, D9).

Hi all,

I was wondering whether anyone can shed light on this seeming contradiction.

I have run the Basic Strategy Engine for 1 deck, S17, D9, No Surr, No Peek which gives a Stand on 7,7 vs dealer 10 yet states that Hard 14 vs. dealer 10 is a Hit.

Is this discrepancy due to the composition of the players hand i.e. in most cases there will be an extra 7 when Hard 14 is dealt?

Thanks in advance and regards

Laurence.

This very question has been asked and answered several times before on this site, but I'll revisit it one more time.
First, the BS engine is correct. 7,7 v. 10 is indeed a stand in all SD games. The reason is that when you have a pair of 7's you have already eaten 50% of the available 7's pool from which a perfect hand can be drawn. Any other 14 combination contains no 7's and therefore, all four 7's remain available, hence the difference.
