No AC in AC?

I am wondering if any of our erudite cognoscenti were in AC this past weekend? I caught part of a news report that mentioned that some or all of the Boardwalk casinos were without air conditioning the entire weekend. Was this report accurate and if so, could someone fill me in as to the effect on crowd conditions?

As of now Trump Plaza and Caesars are still out of the usual air conditioning due to the broken ice-cold-water-pipes. However, they have temporarily piped in cold air from about 20 jumbo air conditioners. Geez, it will cost casinos lotsa of money to rent those ACs daily until the pipes are fixed.

Aggreko helps casinos open with air-conditioners-on-trucks at parking lots.

A casino hotel would be a perfect place to put in natural gas powered ammonia-cycle cooling. Those things last forever and are way cheaper to run than an electrically powered unit on a large scale, and they don't rely on or strain the power grid.

Costs

I'm sure the casinos are not paying for the temporary cooling units. Their AC is supplied by an outside contractor. Most likely the contractor is paying for the temporary units. In fact the casinos might go after the AC company for lost revenue.

Loss of Revenue

What makes me curious is how much this little "mini disaster" will actually affect their bottom line. I here that the mid-July weekend is one of the top 5 for AC casino revenue. It would be nice to get an actual hands on report from one of our group to see how the discomfort affected the size of the crowd and how management responded to the irate customers. :whip:

Gas & ammonia? Hey Monk, don't give the bad guys any idea. I'm really surprise that there are no security to protect Aggreco's jumbo rubber hoses, which are hooked up from the parking lots into 2 casinos' air conditioning systems.

Sabotage anyone?

Knowing the cutthroat competition among the casinos in AC, it wouldn't surprise me if this incident was the result of some sinister ploy by the unaffected houses to quash competitors. Nitrous Oxide anyone?:eek:

Since the parent companies of the 2 properties iinvolved own 7 of the 11 AC casinos, that only leaves 3 suspects for your consiracy theory. Resorts/Hilton, Tropicana who is currently being run by the state and Borgata who is already quashing the competion. I guess the logical suspect is nearly bankrupt resorts/hilton.

Aha! I think you might be on to something there, Kewlman.

I'd suspect a labor issue before any of that. But that would be very serious if it happened; messing with the HVAC in a large building full of people is something that would now be investigated by the Department of Homeland Security.
