No doubling for less allowed.

I ran into this twice the last couple of days. Once at the Pioneer in Laughlin, once at Terribles.
I was spreading my bets and getting the very beginnings of heat,so I tried to "double for less" in a very marginal situation with minimum bets out. Both dealers told me that while doubling for less was allowed,I couldn't make a second bet less than the table minimum.Hence "doubling for less" was allowed only if you were betting above the minimums.I'd never encountered this. Is this widespread?

Never heard of that version, though I have heard of doubling for less not allowed. Some casinos in North Michighan allow doubling on split aces but not hitting them, makes the $1 double down worthwhile on some hands. I find it more prevalent for casinos to not allow insurance for less, though I have no idea why, just my experience.
