"Oh wow another counter" Oh wait... no.

Tonight I thought I was seeing some other counters in action.

1) I was just about to wong into the last spot on an 8D shoe when the count finally got pretty good. And this little dude practically dives in front of me to snag the spot. He then drops a slightly elevated bet while talking to another guy who had been min betting at the table for a while in some made-up foreign language (Russian-ish... maybe Borat). For just a second I thought I was witnessing a foreign team in action. But then the guy started varying his bets randomly, and playing really, really, poorly.

2) Then, while backcounting elsewhere, I notice a guy betting about $300 on one hand. At a place that has $500 max, this is a big deal. So my interest is piqued. Unfortunately, I don't know what the count is (and I'm still trying to backcount the adjacent table). On that hand, a bunch of high cards came out. Next hand, he reduced his bet. Little cards came out, he increased next hand. Dealer showed an ace, he took insurance (collected, too). Few hands later, he didn't take insurance. Then he surrendered 14vs9, I began to think that if the TC was that high, there was no way that he was betting enough. For a moment I thought he had developed an Even More Ultimate Gambit. Then he started playing like a dope.

Kind of disappointing.

That means I've still only stumbled into one for sure counter, one guy who talked like one (but I didn't see him in action), and one dude who was standing by the table and backcounting out loud but not playing.
