Options for one-night hotel in Vegas?

Just wanted some opinions on the following situation . . . I am comped three nights on the North Strip early March, but will be arriving in Vegas a day beforehand. Guest services was not able to comp me for this night, but offered me a casino rate of $110. My other options are to stay gratis at Planet Hollywood a little further south by cashing in Starpoints. The casino rate at PH is also the same, $110. I'm ok at deciphering properties on Hotwire (using betterbidding and Tripadvisor), and have found a match for what is very likely PH at $90 all-in ($72 before taxes and fees). What would you guys choose of the following?

1. Get the casino rate at the North Strip property, ensuring that we wouldn't have to switch hotels after the first night, and maybe playing enough to get this night taken off our bill at check-out.

2. Stay for free at Planet Hollywood on Starpoints, but change hotels after that night.

3. Pay $90 on Hotwire for what is most likely Planet Hollywood, but won't be too upset if it ends up being, say, Treasure Island or NYNY. Would also involve a change of hotels.

Thanks!

I am trespassed there, but I assume you know that it is pretty easy to get backed-off
at P.H. and their low and medium stakes tables are unplayably bad.

Whenever I need a room for a night or two and I am not going to use my comp's etc.
I go to The Stratosphere where, if done in advance, it will cost $30 per night, midweek.

#2. Free is good...moving your stuff after one night sucks, but it's worth $110.

good luck

FLASH, you had mentioned before that you are persona non grata at PH . . . sorry to hear that. I agree the games are pretty bad, but my girlfriend and I like the (somewhat) central location, and she's also fond of the Miracle Mile. Have never stayed at the Strat.

Hey ChefJJ, hope you had a great New Year's! I was actually leaning towards this option. Free is always good, unless it's associated with the word "clinic" :p

New Year's was a blast in Baltimore, guy! Hope yours was off the charts as well :cool2: And yes, the free clinic is always trying the same antibiotic for that burning sensation :joker::flame: (jk)

El Stratosphero isn't too bad, all things considered. We usually get a couple rooms there annually and wreak some havoc. A buddy got booted off the floor one evening, and not for counting...apparently there are things you can't say in Vegas :whip: Look out for a balding, old, unnaturally tanned guy we dubbed "Skeletor" if you must.

good luck and enjoy!

Harrahs is having a huge sale at almost every property. Strat and Sahara are in the $30 range. Bring a days worth of shite in a carry on and don't unpack your main bag.

I disagree with "unplayably bad".

The rules and penetration are on par with the MGM properties (that is, a poor game for play-all but a decent - not great - game for Wonging). Plus, some of the dealers are so sloppy that you might have an edge simply by selectively correcting mistakes.

hmmm

You said that P.H. is "on par with the MGM properties."

All BJ tables (other than $100 tables) at P.H. are H17.

They are all S17 (at the $25 level) at the M.G.M. stores.

If you are trespassed at PH, how do you know this, and if you haven't played there in a while, how do you know your information is current?

You stated "low and medium stakes tables" - unless something has changed in the past 9 months, all the $5-$15 tables on the Strip are all H17, MGM or not.

Even then, H17 does not make a shoe game "unplayably" bad.

1. I never played their low stakes tables, but I certainly looked at them.
That was in mid-'08, and my contacts [and C.B.J.N.] do not indicate that rules or pen' have changed.

2. H17, when combined with BAD pen', equates to "unplayability"; as I do not "Wong" tables.
Far better gaming conditions are readily available throughout the Las Vegas Valley

NOTE: Incidentally, I do know a thing or two about Table Conditions,
as I am one of Stanford Wong's (compensated) casino reporters.

Look at C.B.J.N. to see "Flash" listed. I have used the nick' "Flash" on BJ21 for many years.

Stanford, I last spoke to last night, via on-line real-time "CHAT" at bj21.com's Green Chip weekly Tues. night Chat.

So to be clear, you consider most of the low-stakes shoe games on the Strip to be "unplayable" for the same reasons, right?

I apologize for losing sight of the fact that most of us on this forum
are nickel players. On the strip there are $25 shoe games with S17,
resplit Aces and L.S. e.g. ALL of the M.G.M. venues.

Below the $25 level, you are earning minimum wage or therabouts.

After you play enough BJ - you no longer can find any reason to put
your money at risk and bore yourself to tears to make the kind of
money that you can earn bagging groceries.

Note: For january, thus far, I have played 43 hours with auto-shufflers at
uncrowded tables and playing 2 or 3 hands most of the time. That equates
to 8,000+ hands in one week. I will be in A.C. for several days next week
and then I will be in Vegas the entire first week in Feb, Then back to A.C. for
a few days before a week in Mississippi. I haven't had a "day job" since 1992.

In the earnings posting, you stated that you only made +$19K last year?

Hardly worth giving up your day job for!?

The internet being faceless and never meeting Flash, I would have to hypothsis based on all his posts, and some of the verbiage, that he's an older gentlemen set in his ways.
He has played for decades which estimates him to be retired.
19k after all his travel and expenses (if there not comped), living on savings, SS, pensions, etc, etc. may provide him with ample resources. His day job is paying him $71./hr plus comps, rfb, and I bet free travel.

Thats not so bad.
and I hope he's having a great time too.

Look again.
I had been gravely ill for awhile in 2008.
I only played a grand total of 69 days in 2008.
This year I plan on playing double, (if not triple), that many days.

For what it is worth, there are several young dudes on this forum
who have seen me in action in casinos and have offered to come to my
defense when others slander me.

I just say: "Thanx, but no thanx. Just fuggedaboudit. I am thick-skinned"

And yes, I am about double the edge of most of those who
take sadistically craven pleasure in "flaming" me.

Out of curiousity - how'd you go about getting the comp?

No offence intended by my comments FLASH and I wasnt trying to slander you. I was just curious why one might have given up a day job for a modest $19K per year! I had no prior knowledge of your illhealth and I wish you all the very best for the future in this regard.

Although others frequently chastise you, I still regard you as one of the most knowledgeble and experienced players on this forum and you are always very accomodating to newbie questions. You have thought me a lot and thanks again for the Zen RA indices!! ;)
