On a similar note, there has been some grumblings of taking the PA casinos and turning them from "slot parlors" into full-blown casinos with table games. As to be expected, there are state legislators not on board with that right now.

The way I look at it, the casinos in PA are half-assed attempts at the gaming industry.

True, however, they have taken a good chunk of slot business from AC.

Despite that, AC is planning to build two new mega-hotel/casinos (MGM and Pinnacle) and is trying to expand beyond gaming to make it more of a destination.

My opinion is there was no way in hell they would have passed table games on the first go-around for the reason that u state.

But I think the BJ game that seats 5 people is probably dealt according to the odds of the rules. I assume it's a 0.6 to 0.7% HA game.

Not the best but better than slots.

Does PA offer any decent video poker games?

I may get down to the Meadows in the next couple weeks since I'm not very far away. Perhaps I'll log my results or the results of other BS players.

So, while it has to fit the definition of "slot machine" to make it legal, it's really a table game without a table.

I assume completely non-countable.

Fair enough. But the "reason" I state is not my opinion, but the quoted opinions of some legislators around here. They feel that the public has not seen the tax benefits from the current slot parlors, so why should they up the ante by allowing table games?

No, I have not been to the local slot parlors, and I don't intend to. I'd rather go to AC, Vegas (because of sportsbetting as well), or Argosy. I realise that the PA casinos have taken some slot business from AC, but as a non-slot player, they are half-assed attempts for my purposes. Clearly, they were supposed to be a boon for the state, but have not proven so from a tax-relief standpoint. That's why there is some resistance from the state legislature it seems.

good luck

Chief JJ Right about PA "Slot Casinos"

They are "half-assed." I'm from the South Side of Pittsburgh and have not visited the Meadows and don't intend too. I am looking forward to West Virginia in October, but the new Dir. of Blackjack came from an Indian Casino in California. I called down to Wheeling and they told me his name and I did a Google on him. I forgot where I put info. I assume they will deal an 8D game with S17 and a 6D in High Roller Room. Not much to look forward too. I know a local Bus Tour Operator who recently told me his Junket tour business to AC is just about finished. The Slot Casino in Pittsburgh will not be completed until late 2008 or early 2009. My cleaning lady who is addicted to the slots told me her girlfriend told her that last Friday and Saturday night the two casino's in West Virginia less than 30 minutes from the Meadows were damn near empty. No question PA Slots have really hurt West Virginia. They are currently training 600 table game dealers at local community college or similar facility and Poker will will start soon. Blackjack starts beginning of October. I know all the legislators from Western PA and they tell me table games will come no sooner than 2010. The Borgata in AC is the closest blackjack casino dealing 6D games on main floor. Prefered Tours offers a fair two night trip out of Latrobe, PA to AC for approximately $170 for a non-rated player. Free for a $50 rated player.

Good info JP...so October-ish for BJ in Wheeling. Fair enough--that's on my way to Ohio, so could be a worthy stop over point.

As far as the PA legislature & going to table games, I was just talking to a local state senator about a completely different topic and briefly asked him about his comments on the table games. Apparently (as JP said already), there appears to be plenty of legislative resistance to taking that plunge since the slot parlors haven't yet "delivered".
