Penetration simple question

Hello again and thanks for the many answers I get. That's really great

As mentioned before I have never been at a Casino so I have a lot of "stupid" questions.

Question:

I've heard about penetration and its mighty effect at about 60-80 %.
But do you cut 20-40% of the cards out of the play at start so they are discarded or should you only play to max 80 %?

Can probably be answered by one post but it's rather important for my practice.
Thanks in advance

Sorry if I OVER-simplify this, but if you've never been to a casino before......

After shuffling, and just before the dealer puts the cards into the shoe; she will take the cut card (usually just a blank yellow plastic card) and place it somewhere into the middle of the pack. If she were to place it about 2 decks from the back of an 8 deck shoe, that would be said to be 75% penetration. When the dealer deals the shoe, after about 6 decks (75% of the cards) are played; the cut card comes out. When this card comes out, the shoe is over (after completion of THAT round); the cards that are still in the shoe are taken out and everything gets reshuffled. So I guess the answer to your question is that 20%-40% of the cards get cut out at the END of the shoe, and not at the beginning.

And keep asking questions. The only STUPID question is the one that doesn't get asked.

BTW, I started off in blackjack exactly like you're going about it. I dealt cards to myself for 4-6 hours a day for 6 months before actually going to play. By the time I took my first trip to Vegas I was counting cards at the professional level. When I walked into the Las Vegas Club in downtown, it was the first time I had ever even SEEN a blackjack table in my entire life.

There is only one way and that's the hard way. I've counted cards like Ben in 21 on the plane since I was 13 and I'm 17 soon 18.

I've bought a Blackjack Tablecloth and my little brother is so kind that he deals out to me once a week for a few hours. It's a booring job for him so i appreciate every minute.

He is of course not as fast as dealers but I get a lot more than if I dealt to myself.

Thanks for your answer. It helped a lot.

To further clarify, a player does not actually cut any cards out of play. After a player makes his/her cut the dealer takes the yellow card and cuts the end of the shoe out of play. This can range anywhere from less than half a deck to more than half the shoe depending on the casino and the dealer.
