Well as you can see from my post count on these forums I just found this place and have just started card counting / indices / perfect BS. Now whenever I go to the casino it seems that there is always someone who talks about certain plays in blackjack (mostly buying insurance) and how its a terrible bet and you should never get it. Usually I just agree but on the inside i'm just laughing since they aren't as informed as they could be.

The only bad thing was when the TC was +9/+10 and I was insuring my $60 bets to no avail....I did like 3 insurance bets in 6 hands and the whole table thought I was retarded, haha, still won all the hands though.

Kind of just a random topic but I always think its pretty cool when you know that you are smarter than the average joe playing blackjack...i just can't wait until I have 10/10 vs. a 6 or 5 and I split them...that will be awesome.

It will be even more awesome to see the look on their faces when the casino backs you off two minutes after you split those 10's.

oh they won't, i've been there a lot and they don't have a clue im card counting, plus i play low stakes so shouldn't be a big deal to them, they'll just think im terrible.

Has anyone ever split 10's though?

I'm only 18 so maybe that helps me out in the fact that they wouldn't suspect me as a counter, who knows

Recently, I was backcounting a table where a young girl ploppy split 10s against a dealer 10. Dealer screams it out to the floor. PC comes running over to look and patiently gives the girl an explanation why it's such a bad idea. She took it back.

PC is still watching. Next hand she has 12 and dealer has a 5 showing. She asks for a card. PC again explains why it's a bad idea. I was surprised how patient he was.

Bottom line, don't do it unless you want a lot of attention.

yeah at my casino I know most of the PC so don't think they will care, I will only do it against a 5/6 with a TC of +5 or +4 respectively, and I'll just try and make up a reason why I'm doing it :)

I'm overly paranoid about cover ... but I still don't like splitting TT or doubling on A9.

Ian Anderson wrote something along the lines of "When you split TT, you're telling the casino that you're either a complete fool, or very sharp ... and it won't take them long to figure out which applies to you".

You wait until someone else splits their tens and gets the lecture, pulls it back and loses. Then you say "I don't believe you" to the lecturer, and split. =)

I split 10's all the time when called for. I highly recommend it, as it is a profitable play during good counts and the opportunity is rare for it so you've got to take advantage of it when it happens. However, use common sense and if the casino you are in is pretty sweaty than use caution and rethink it. My biggest hand ever was a ten split at a count of +8 when I had two hands of twenty against a dealer 5 and ended up splitting both hands to a total of 7 hands and took the casino for 28 units as the dealer busted his five. By the way my unit is not my minimum bet!
