Pickpocket encounter in AC

I walked away from an unpleasant session recently that featured both a small loss and these two ladies that look like they were dressed for church calling me a white 'mofo.' So I walked out to one of the beach bars to see what it's like, and on the walkway this girl in a swimsuit gropes my upper body. Since women usually have their hands all over me, it took me almost a second to realize it wasn't my ultra-masculine body she was interested in, but the contents of a particular pocket.

And I thought my luck was bad! Of all the people in AC in the summer, she picks an AP to try this on. There was no way for me to communicate to this skank-ho both just how unlikely it would be for her to get anything out of that pocket, and how much trouble she would be in if she did get something. So I turned away from her and walked back up onto the Boardwalk.

Just a reminder to all- casino venues attract people who are as bad as we are good, and who target the casino patrons like we target the casinos. Watch out.

Being an AP,
I would have told her, you chose the wrong person to try and pickpocket. Since you like to try and take money from people, I'll return the favor. You pay me $50 right now or I go to the police. :)

Thanx for the reminder AM. I always try to be careful but it never hurts to be reminded.

I hope everyone is using a money belt or something similar to hold their cash.
I do, but I have a lot of cash in a pocket too when physically in the casinos because I don't want to have to go down my pants at the table.

Aw shucks, Monk. I wouldn't take all that too seriously. She was just reaching for that banana in your pocket.:grin:

Lots of this in AC

This is not uncommon in AC. There often seems to be as many urchins and riff raff as there is gamblers in AC. One attracts the other! There are even organized teams of people that are always looking for opportunities to carry out various evil deeds against "mofos"... You see them and peg them right out if you are there everyday. I have had occasion to be followed and/or heavily scrutinized by people with less than noble intent. It's not just the casino that is watching you!

I'm pretty surprised that getting robbed like this isn't more popular of a story (perhaps people too embarrassed to tell it?).

My friend's brother came with us on a Vegas trip once and left the tables to go for a quick walk (we were at MGM so he took a loop around NYNY-Excalibur-Tropicana-MGM). He comes back and reports that the city is awesome and that he just had two girls rub up against him on the overpass. Immediately and practically in unison, we respond, "Check your wallet!" Gone. And with his entire trip bankroll too, because he ignored our advice to put it in the room safe before we left.

Fortunately it sounds like AM is a smart cookie.

as a veteran of ac, i gotta agree, they are out there, mostly on the boardwalk, iv encountered the most trouble in the vacant ghosttown like times of winter.

if your walkning, walk on the sidewak off the strip, instead of the bw.

My defence plan is carriing an empty jacket, which i would toss on the ground claiming everything is in it, just dont kill me while i run away.

I also carry and empty wallet to toss on the ground with a like escape plan

throwing an empty jacket to the ground and running away seems like kind of an odd move to me.

as far as the wallet, I have the tradition give up wallet that I keep $13 in. (1 five and 8 singles) Also have a few players cards with other people names that I found laying around and an id that came with the wallet that has a phoney address. I've never used it but I figure the hoods would just think they got some sucker who lost all his money and was almost broke. If you give them a completely empty wallet as you suggust, you could just piss them off and could be a problem next time you run into these crumbs and believe me I see the same low life over and over on the boardwalk.

You might want to adjust that for inflation.

In all seriousness, I carry at least $30 in my fake wallet. I am afraid if it's any less, then a mugger might stab me or at least try to search me for more money.

I don't carry any money in my real wallet, just cards and ID and it would be a hassle to replace it so I wouldn't give it up.

Where I keep my money, the attacker would have to lower his head into a position where I would be able to remove it from his body, which I would probably have to do being I can't run very well.

The only places on the Boardwalk you'd have that happen are in the no-man's-lands between the Uptown/Midtown and Midtown/Downbeach sections, where there are a lot of bums congregating. Going through there I speedwalk, so if there's a bum speedwalking or running towards me I'll notice him right away and have time to react to him.

I saw the exact opposite happen. A guy dropped several Benjamins from his pocket as he was sitting down without realizing it. A good samaritan saw it and told him. As for the guy who got pickpocketed, I'd think security could just review the tapes and nail the bastard.

My wallet actually fell out of my pocket in a casino. I realized when I went to cash out my chips. It had been turned in to security by an anonymous patron, with the full 1000+ dollars still inside.

I like the idea of keeping an extra wallet, I have never thought of that...

I go to a school that is in one of the worst cities in the U.S. The campus is usually very safe, but every once in a while there is an incident (a friend of mine was robbed at gunpoint walking home from class :flame:). My advice is to always have some paranoia and be aware of everyone and how close they are to you, and have the local police station's number on speed dial... A lot of people carry heat and have the respectable permits and check their guns in when they get to school... I never liked this idea since if someone is crazy enough to rob you at gunpoint, if they see you reaching for a weapon, they will shoot. But just another idea.

Hope this helps out a little.
