If you spend enough time in the casinos, you can "see it all". The craziness, the lucky slams, the amazing windfalls, the disastrous losses all going on around you and people's reactions to them. The pit's condolences to the losers as they say, "Better luck" to them, not really meaning it. The pit's scramble to assess what exactly happened with anyone that won and whisper things back and forth. The player's mentalities, antics and examples of typical human nature --- You can see some interesting people and behaviors if you hang out at casinos long enough!
Years ago I was at a $25 min table with a few other players, all guys. A well-dressed, well-heeled, very attractive woman (to say the least) strolls up and buys in. She starts playing and OF COURSE the array of guys at the table start to talk to her or try to flirt with her, engaging her in conversation. Every one of these guys at the table were totally distracted and looking her over and talking to her. I was staying focused on playing and not saying much of anything. She had quite enough "prospects" without me adding to it anyway.
She proceeded to talk about how she WAS playing in "the pit" but had lost $26,000 so she was forced to come out here and play with "the riff-raff" more or less in a sort of snotty way. As one of the guys that sort of reminded me of Larry the Cable Guy (so it was a very weird mismatch of West Virginia meets Manhattan) was REALLY trying to hit it off with her and sitting next to her and at some point of her conversation with him she announced, "Yes, well... I'm very high maintenance". At this point I could hold back no longer!!!! I spoke up loud enough that everyone could hear it saying, "Well, Honey... at $26,000 in one night I GUESS YOU ARE!" The dealer busted up laughing, she then stared me down like she wanted to kill me, saying nothing and there were a few other little chuckles that the other guys at the table were trying to hold back from laughing too hard as obviously it wrecked theirs "chances". I didn't stay at that table much longer as things had tanked out and it's just as well, I guess.
