Ploppy playing sidebet on your hand - should you ask for a piece of the winnings?

The guy sitting next to me asked if he could play the Match the Dealer sidebet on my spot, since I wasn't playing it. He hit a few times. Before agreeing to let him play it, should I have asked for a piece of any winnings? What would you have done?

Usually I don't care (and pity these folks a bit), but if anything I'd be casual about it - "Sure thing, but if you win, share the wealth, will ya?"

From a generic honesty standpoint, no. All you're doing is offering him a spot to lose more money*... why should you be entitled to any winnings if he wins? If someone puts their money into a slot machine you were previously sitting at, and they win, should you get anything?

*Unless you've identified an advantageous opportunity for the side bet.

I wouldn't. You want to be careful with your interaction with ploppies because many of them are desperate and degenerate and you don't know what it could lead to, and you have so much more to lose than them.

Generally I like them to play that sidebet because to a cursory glance across the table, it looks like I'm playing it. Free cover.

I allow people to play it because it looks like i'm betting more than I am. If playing the Royal Match, I tell the people i want 10% if they hit a royal match. Its really just to judge their reactions as I'd refuse it if I won.
Last month in the EC, there was a female truck driver betting green on both the hand and the RM. for quite awhile,we were the only two playing. Another woman joined us and out of the blue, the driver threw me a green chip and said cover the match for me, I've got a feeling its coming out this hand.. My first card was the king of Spades. Next card was a club. The woman who just sat down had King/Queen of diamonds. The driver went bonkers.

side bet interaction

I have to agree with Shadroch about the interaction. I have had people play my spot but didn't interact whatsoever with them. I've seen too many nut cases at the tables to risk some incident cause attention to my play. blackchipjim

Think about it if the shoe were on the other foot. You find an advantage on a sidebet...not MTD because I don't think there is a point where that becomes profitable...and you ask the man or woman if you can place a wager in the sidebet. How might you react if they say they want a piece of the winnings? I'd be a little frustrated.

I'd say no thanks, but your not comparing apples and apples. We look at it differently than the "public." We're playing with the advantage. They're not.
