Pre-session routine?

What are some of the exercises and routines that forum members go through immediately before each session?

I would like to know what players do the night before (for the less frequent player), 1 hour before, in the car outside the casino, and as the player walks into the casino to prepare themselves for a session.

Are there any routines or "commandents" you recite to yourself before you go into a session?

I count down a deck as the last thing I do before I step out of the car or leave the room to enter a casino (approximately 5 minutes before I start backcounting).

And how do you pick which table(s) to backcount?

Are there any signs?

I play frequently so maybe this is not what you are looking for..

"1 hour before, in the car outside the casino, and as the player walks into the casino to prepare themselves for a session."

Before I walk in I will put my buy-in in my coat pocket.

"Are there any routines or "commandents" you recite to yourself before you go into a session?"

I say " Dont drink! "

"I count down a deck as the last thing I do before I step out of the car or leave the room to enter a casino (approximately 5 minutes before I start backcounting). "

No not so much.. I have mastered counting with my preferred method.

"And how do you pick which table(s) to backcount?"

I look for table rules. Does not have to have a set min or max bet.

"Are there any routines or "commandents" you recite to yourself before you go into a session? "

My routine is to take a piss before I play. And grab some water from a server.

"I count down a deck as the last thing I do before I step out of the car or leave the room to enter a casino (approximately 5 minutes before I start back counting)."

I put out my cigarette.

"And how do you pick which table(s) to back count?"

By the rules of the given table.

"Are there any signs?"

No, its a new shoe with a new count. Take it at face value.

Honestly, nothing much. I'm pretty lazy. I have a general game plan about where I want to go, how long I want to stay in which place, how much I'm betting, and what I'm angling for, compwise. About the only thing I might consciously do is quickly evaluate my mood walking in the door, and if I'm overly exuberant, I'll try to lower expectations.

When my counting was shakier, I found it useful to, the night before, count down a few decks (singles, pairs, trips, variable). And, if basic strategy was still a pain, make my own BS chart from memory. These would still be good ideas next time I'm switching games (to a single deck game, for instance).

When looking for tales, I'm generally looking for ones with fresh shoes, and either completely empty, or at least a few open spots. I don't know any fancy shuffle tracking stuff, so I'm fairly dealer agnostic most of the time. As an absolute last ditch tiebreaker, I'll play at the table of a dealer I like, if I recognize one.

For starters a new shuffle. But seriously look for tables which will provide better opportunities. What I mean by that is find tables with deeper pen and less players. Don't bother counting a $5 or $10 table with only one spot open as it will probably fill up anyway and you won't get as many rounds in for yourself. Higher end tables will usually have more spots available and greater odds for players burning through their cash opening up more spots and more rounds for yourself. Players at tables betting large sums of money also mean less attention on you. Try to get into tables were you can play multiple hands if need be.

As for pre-session routine I don't practise on game day, I practise counting shoes on the days that I do not play to keep sharp.

I have learned not to play BJ on a day that I travel. An hour ride to the airport, sitting around for a five hour flight and the sensory overload of arriving in Vegas make it dificult to concentrate.I start the next ay after a decent nights sleep.

How do I choose the table:- happy players,a cute dealer, dirty ashtrays and hopefully a whale in a red OSU hat make the perfect storm.

I'd rather get a beating from casino security. With witnesses. In a non-Indian casino outside of Nevada. That's the real "Ultimate Gambit."
