Question about General Strategy

AZN Dragon,

To answer the question, it depends on whether you are playing a pitch game or a shoe game.

1) In a pitch game with 2.2 vs 2, you should hit but if DAS is allowed, then you should split. This is a defensive move and some might say its an offensive move especially if the TC is high.

In a shoe game, you should split.

2) 16 vs 9? In a pitch game, you should hit rather than surrender. In a shoe game you should surrender but if surrender option is not available then hit.

In shoe games,

You should always split AA vs 88 (maybe consider surrendering 8,8 vs 10 or 8,8 vs Ace esp. if ENHC rules apply where if the dealer gets BJ/natural, you lose all the bets).

2,2 - split if the dealer's upcard is between 2-6 and if DAS allowed
3,3 - split if the dealer's upcard is between 3-6 and if DAS allowed
4,4 - split ONLY if the dealer has 5 or 6. If the TC is high maybe consider
doubling against a 5 or 6. In pitch games, you should split 4,4 vs 4,5,6
5,5 - NEVER split - should double if the dealer's card is 2 to 9. If TC is high
double against dealer's face card or 10 card.
6,6 - split if the dealer's upcard is between 2-6 and NOT seven
7,7 - split if the dealer's upcard is between 2-7
8,8 - always split (maybe except 10 or Ace)
9,9 - split 2 through 9 (except 7, 10 or Ace)
10,10 - dont split tens unless card counting applies
A,A - always split
If you have a total of 9, double if the dealer has a 3 to 6 upcard
If you have a total of 10 after splitting, double if the dealer has a 2 through to 9
If you have a 11, double for all the dealer's upcard except Ace.

If double on 5,6,7 the only way you will win is if the dealer busts:

These are the busting percentages for the dealer's upcard:

2 - 35%
3 - 37%
4 - 40%
5 - 43%
6 - 42%
7 - 26%
8 - 24%
9 - 22%
10 - 20%
A - 15%

You are never favoured to win so dont double on 5,6,7. You could tie on 17 but BS tells us to surrender when the dealer has an A because 17 is crap! I also surrender 17 against 10 at high TCs.

So if you double, you double your losses.

I will split 2,2 or 3,3 vs dealer 7 in a DAS game. Check out your BS.

You are a very long way from being in a position where you can gain any advantage over the house.

If you do not want to lose your money, change your plans.

what!?
Your link seems to be referring to an online version of BJ, which apparently is different than the live version.
