Question about Illustrious 18

Hi, I use hi-lo and I was wondering why the Illustrious 18 only includes some of the basic strategy changes you make. For example doubling down on an a,8 vs a dealer 6 when the tc=+1 isn't included. Also can anyone tell me what advantage over a 6 deck game in AC I would have if I only bet 2x my initial bet when the TC was +1 or higher. Finally what bankroll would I need for doing this if my minimum bet was $10 and I wanted a risk of ruin of 20%. Thanks in advance.

The whole point of the I-18 was to trim away the fat, and present a short list of strategy index numbers that were most important. Schlesinger chose these 18 plays because they are the most profitable to know and use.

You would not have an advantage at all, unless you are Wonging (avoiding all negative counts). The standard bet spread for a 6D game uses a max bet of 16x the minimum bet. You could get away with 1-8 or even 1-4 if you are aggressively Wonging though.

Like you only get an A,8 vs 6 probably less than once in a 1000 hands. And at TC+1 you probably still have a min bet. And whether u double or stay probably cost s u less than 1% of the bet anyway.

You won't find a $10 6D game in AC.

You can find $10 6 deck tables at the Borgata during the weekdays.
Cool! Thanks for the info. Borgata - here I come!

Wait a minute, it'd cost me $5 for the round-trip shuttle for maybe a 0.02% reduction. I don't think I'll be playing 2500 hands there so screw it!

BTW the Jitney is $2 each way so you should only have to pay $4 to go from the boardwalk to there. It is definitely worth it as the atmosphere is much nicer there and from what I've seen, they comp you a lot better there than the properties on the boardwalk. In addition at the Borgata, you can split up to 4 hands vs 3 hands elsewhere. (hardly adds to your edge but for that once in 1000 hands when it happens, it's nice to be able to take advantage of it.) Everytime I go to AC, I actually have an edge to begin with since I get $25 in slot/video poker play from Resorts for the bus bonus (trip cost for me during the weekday is $29 and ) and then I also get $20 cash from Bally's just for coming in there. You might want to make the trips sooner rather than later though as there is increasing talk that all of AC is going to be going to H17 instead of S17. Right now I've only seen that rule at the Harrah's properties for shoe games.

Thanks Thunder - I actually like the Borgata and from what I've gathered they do comp pretty generously. Wife won $400+ ($10 table) there playing Spanish 21 for the first time hitting that match bet like crazy. I hate it when she wins more than I do - I never hear the end of it :)

Last trip I wanted to go everyday but just never made it.

From what I read here that H17 virus has already spread there! Enough to make me very indifferent about going again - I'll try one of the NY Seneca casinos before that.

With all the money they're losing from the new slot parlors in Philadelphia, you'd think they'd be doing more to get people to come, especially table-game people.

Anybody know if Spanish21 also went H17 in AC?

Well the H17 virus has spread but thankfully it hasn't hit the Borgata yet at least not since I was there last a week ago. If it did, I'm not sure it would even be worth going to AC anymore except to take advantage of the beach during the summertime, since you'd have to have a huge bankroll to really make any real dough. $400 is an incredible win for just betting $10 a hand. She must have the luck of the Irish. Personally, I find no need to play Spanish 21 only because as far as I know of, you can't count with Spanish 21 and even when I'm really really tired and don't feel like counting anymore, the house edge is practically the same as the 6 deck BJ game. Sometimes I'll go off and shock myself by getting a flush in the 100 hand video poker game they have there that's a lot of fun. (I always just play it until I get that big win like a straight or flush or 3 of a kind, and then take off with my winnings as I know the house edge on that is like 98.5% or so.) Be careful not to let the wife catch you looking at the waitresses there ;)

That's nice to know it was still S17 so recently. We may go again in August.
Yeah she sure was - I spent the whole time telling her not to make the "sucker" match bet (3% or so I think) and then she'd get a BJ with a perfect match, then a double perfect match, then another match BJ. It was crazy. People fight over who gets to place their bet in my empty match circle. I don't think you can count the game either.

So you're saying they have full-pay JOB machines? I couldn't find any where I was. Any chance they have full pay Pick 'em Poker machines?

First they take surrender away and now S17. Makes me

No it wasn't full pay. The only 9/6 Jacks or better machine I've seen in all of Atlantic City was in Resorts and there were only 2 of them that I saw at the quarter level. Granted, I haven't checked anywhere south of Bally's or the other properties near the Borgata.

Borgata

I'll be at the Borgata this coming week. I'll let everyone know if I see any H17. I'll also ask one of the PCs if they plan to make any changes.

After having finished my taxes earlier than expected, I'm going to treat myself to a trip to the Borgata and maybe Showboat and Bally's today. I'll let you know what happens.

I answered the H17 Q in another thread (couldn't find this one...)

I spoke with one of the PCs and as far as he knew there were no plans to add any H17 tables. He referred to it (and SD 6:5) as gimmicks, and they gave me a sales pitch on the superiority of their own games with same rules at all tables (except some pits w/NMS), only 6 players per table, etc.

I saw your other post about Trump offering LS. Hope that one spreads around town!

Speaking of competition, besides the slots in PA, DE is now offering digital BJ, similar to Cherokee, NC.
