Question about the Red 7

I have a question about the "Advanced Red 7" system that was created by Arnold Snyder.

In his book "Blackbelt in Blackjack", he discusses the RC and how to determine it, then how to bet (units wise) for each certain count.

For Ex: (for shoe games)

Negative - 0 units
0 - 2 units
+2 - 2 units
+6 - 3 units

and so on...

Anyway, then he goes on to discuss "True Edge" which is found by dividing the RC over the number of decks remaining x 2.

So if the RC was 6 and there were 3 decks left to be dealt out:

(6)/(3x2) =
6/6=
1%

That would give the player a 1% edge over the pivot advantage of 1/2%, giving the player a 1 1/2% advantage over the house.

ANYWAY, this leads me to 2 questions:

1) The book seems to say you should bet according to the RC, but then discusses True Edge. Wouldn't it make more sense to bet according to the True Edge? Did I not read the Bet-Sizing Chapter carefully enough?

2) When you are creating the Denominator for your True Edge Fraction, for the number of decks remaing part do you use the Real number of decks remaining in the Shoe or do you use the Number of decks left remaing that will be dealt out according to the Tables Penetration?

Thanks so much guys!

1) With the simple Red 7 count, you bet according to the running count. If you wish to get more accurate with your betting, you can upgrade to the true edge methodology of betting. The true edge is a more accurate figure for the advantage because it is true counted (the running count is divided by the remaining half decks- although some systems divide by full or quarter decks when converting to the true count) as opposed to only using the running count, for betting.

2) No, do not confuse the Tables of penetration with anything else. They are to be used by themselves to figure out how good a game is.

Use the real number of decks remaining in the shoe to figure out the true edge. So in a six deck shoe, you will always use a denominator of 12 descending down to where ever the shuffle point for the game is. If they happen to shuffle at 2 decks remaining, your final denominator will be 4.

To keep it simple he recommends using 2x the remaining decks as the denominator, but you can use the actual number of half decks remaining. Example: You are lucky enough to find a 6 deck game where five decks are dealt out. When there is 1.5 decks remaining, you can use three as your denominator, instead of using 2x the remaining decks.

Also, not to take away from the advice you'll get here, but Arnold will personally answer your questions at his site. Although sometimes he takes a while to get to them. http://blackjackforumonline.com/
