Question on Basic Strategy

Hello, I was playing strategy trainer on 'Hit or Stand' site, and I got into a situation like this: My hand was 2,A. Dealer had a face up card of 4. So I hit, and received a 2, and again, another 2, and an Ace after that. So I stayed because I had a soft 18, but the strategy trainer said I should hit instead. I thought you only hit soft 18 when dealer shows an 9,10 or A. Anyone can help me with this? Thanks a lot^^

for four or more decks if you have A7 or soft 18

hit dealer's 9, 10's, A
double or if you can't double hit dealers 3, 4, 5, 6
stand dealer's 2, 7, 8

best regards,

One of us is seriously misinterpreting the BS charts, and I really, really hope it's not me!

phantomq: The game at HitorStand has some bugs. They have a forum over there for discussing the game, where you might be able to find out what they are. Even better, just play the BS Trainer on this site!

For A7 against 3-6, it is double, otherwise STAND.

Thanks everyone

Thank you all for helping me with the problem. Good to know the bug. Anyway, I liked Hit or Stand trainer better cuz they have that 20 seconds bonus part, which really makes u faster in playing basic strategy. I sometimes use this site's trainer, but it's too slow...even with the 'quick play' ticked. What I do is I open 3 hit or stand windows and play 3 hands under their time limit. Anyone has better trainer sites? Thanks

Hit or Stand.net

I too learned Basic Strategy using hit or stand, even with the games few shortcomings the format worked really well for me, and I recommend this free non-download game for any newby to Blackjack. For anyone wanting to learn to count cards, Basic Strategy needs to be "automatic", the correct play needs to be in your head instantly, so you can concentrate on counting. Practice on hit or stand will help get you to that level quickly, I still go back and play on it now and then, just for entertainment.

The way I practiced basic strategy was while doing online bonuses. I could practice playing strategy while building my bankroll! By the time you finish all of the good bonuses you will have played thousands of hands.

I was just playing on the KO practice software and I had A7 vs 6 and I couldn't double so I stood, but they said I should have hit. Weird...

Another situation came up where I had soft 18 vs a 3 and it said I should hit as well. I think the program doesn't understand the fact that it is double, otherwise stand. The program's basic strategy only says double for that hand, but I have the rules set so you can only double 10 and 11. So the computer doesn't understand that you should be standing instead of taking another card. That's just what I think. It could be the same with hit or stand, but I've never played there so I cant be sure.

A solution, at least for the KO program, is to alter the BS chart.

It's a bug in the program, I've had some odd error messages come up as well!
