Recourse against rude dealer comments? Suggestions?

So as many of you know, i live in an area where there is one casino for about 3 hours in any direction, so this is a place I frequent about 1x-2x a week, either on the BJ tables or in the poker room. Most of the dealers know my face and know that i am a proficient blackjack player. I have both WON and LOST large amounts in that casino life-to-date, so i just look like an average punter that knows his BS.

The other day i was doing my usual thing on the BJ tables, which is spreading $5-80, playing off the top and wonging out after 1.5 decks if TC is zero. So far, the night had not brought me positive variance. Down about 200 in poker and down another 250 in Blackjack for the night.

I see an Empty 10 dollar min table and i sit down as the only player and start playing one spot. The count never gets above TC 1, so never bet anything more than min bet. after a shoe by myself (and making small talk with the dealer) i was never up more than 30 (with this dealer) at any given point.

Soon, every time the dealer pays me off on a winning minimum bet, he goes " thanks for the bet", "thanks i appreciate it", "thanks buddy" even though i'm not tipping at all. I know this is his way of making me feel guilty, but as a net loser that evening i was not in the mood to start tipping unless i got into the green for the night. Eventually the count goes negative and i color up, the dealer colors me up except for 5 white chips, which he is expecting me to toss his way.

I grab my color and the dealer loudly says " Thanks for the chips man, you were a real sport" --loud enough that it grabs the PB's attention.

This just pissed me off to no end. i can't believe that this dealer expected me to tip him on winning minimum bets, and i wasn't even winning at his table! He obviously didn't know i was down a significant amount on the night (which would warrant no tipping at all), but his snide remarks were definitely inappropriate.

What do you guys suggest i do? Should i call the complaints hotline at this casino and out this dealer for his rudeness, or would it be worth my time to lay low on this one? As a regular patron, i'm sure an angry phone call from me would probably not be taken lightly, but then again, i might be tiptoeing on a minefield if i call too much attention to myself.

Any advice is welcome

The dealer was definitely in the wrong, he was trying to hustle you and that is most certainly against dealer edict... since this incident has passed...I would leave it alone, but if it happens again just let the pit boss know that you don't appreciate being hustled for a tip...

If you really want to do something, then tell the Pit Boss.

I was at a table in Vegas where a man mistakenly thought the dealer was mocking him after he asked a question, then he lost the hand and was PISSED. He walked to the other side of the Pit, grabbed the Boss, and I heard him explaining how the PB was a huge b**** and was mocking him.

The Pit Boss headed towards the dealer, called her name, but before he said anything I said "Hey, (dealers name) didn't say anything. That guy was pissed because he lost."

The PB said "Ok, thanks" and walked away.

I still really want to make a point to the casino that i didn't appreciate the dealer's hustling... i guess i missed my window of opporunity to tell it to the pit boss. ...

I still have the option of calling the hotline and who knows if they will just get someone on the phone to say sorry or if they'll comp me something for my "trouble".

what do you guys think here.... is calling the hotline +EV or minus EV ??

If i factor in longevity and play the card of local gambler who goes to this casino for a pleasant social gaming experience, this could possibly be + EV, and could be excellent cover, right? No Pitboss would assume that an AP would be acting like this right under their nose....

See it all the time.
What I would do is dig for a quarter and place it out for toke bet and say:
Okay, you really deserve this, lets win one!! z:laugh:g

I'm not saying what I did was right, but this happened to me not too long ago. This is the only time I've ever really lost my temper while playing at a casino.

My GF and I were at a club on the strip. We left around 2 A.M. and she wanted to play, so we sat down and were both flatting $25. There was another really nice guy at the table - he was slightly looped and a little slow, but he was not being a jerk in any way.

We hit the shift change and got a different dealer. At one point, the other player asked the dealer, "What should I do?" The dealer sneered, "I don't know the next card, buddy." I think it bothered me more than it did the player, but I didn't say anything. The dealer was WAY out of line...maybe you had to be there, idk.

We played for a couple of hours and were coloring up. I'd given my GF all the halves from our BJ's, so she had a small stack. I didn't grab the change when she gave me her chips, so she pushed them to the dealer after he colored me. He lets out this long sigh, rolls his eyes, and shouts, "COLOR COMING INNNNN!" - just a total douche.

My GF is low-key and always pleasant. She was a little embarrassed by his actions and the comment. He gives her whatever it was and there was one half left over.

Shaking his head, he (seriously) shouts again, "THAAAANK YOU FOR PLAYING. YOU HAVE YOURSELF A GOOOOOOD NIGHT." just as sarcastictly as any human can be.

That was it - I just lost it. I said, "Look, mother ****er, you speak to my wife like that ever again, I swear I'll rip your eyes out." He kind of backs off a little shocked and says in a whisper, "I was just wishing her a good night. Relax, dude." (I'm old enough to be his father).

My GF grabs my arm, so I settled down. I usually toke at the end of a session. I debated whether to ship him the half dollar with some smart-ass remark, but decided against it in case he had something else to say, which I know would have escalated the scene even more.

I'm not a bad-ass and wasn't trying to be, but damn.....

In response to your question, how about after one of those remarks:

"If you rely in any way on tips for a portion of your income, you've struck out with me. I usually take care of the dealer when I'm done, but you've made the math easy tonight. Better luck next time."

As far as reporting him now, I think I'd let it go. Take the high road, as there is usually no traffic.

The perfect opportunity was when you were leaving and the PB was tuned in. I would have been thinking up a way to shame the dealer anyway. If I hadnt done it by then I know what I would have done then. I would have said loud and clear, I was going to tip you but you were being obnoxious trying to force me to tip. I am surprised a quality establishment like this one would let you work here. I am sure you have driven away many customers trying to hustle them for tips. It makes the time spent losing some money to get away from the house a totally unenjoyable experience. I would rather be back home with my inlaws that are visiting.

thats exactly the kind of input i was looking for. i just honestly was shocked at the fact that a dealer would hustle a regular for a few measly bucks. I certainly don't mean to open up the "to tip or not to tip" discussion in general, but in this case it was so awkward i just walked off silently even though i was really mad inside.

I'll take the high road this time but will be more confrontational next time around with a dealer who tries to push me around. It just ain't right

Good story for learning. Be prepared for ***hole dealers, pits and players. Don’t let them ruin your cover. Bring them into it and enjoy your victory.

Any extra attention to yourself is too much and remember, he will be an ***hole long after you leave.

I saw these things too much!
In the old days,some casino around my place managed like this,they give a low salary to the dealers and push them to hustle customers to tip,and the casino would have a cut!Another house edge?
But they will not blame or fired a dealer being rude!
but bad times passed,more and more casino starting to run here,
customers have choices ,and hustle the rude club to change,thats a lot better there now!
I think you should tell the pit boss you consider to not come again if the dealer keep the rude attitude,or just find another nice place!

Actually that is almost like what happened to me yesterday. In my case, he kept pumping my spot every round before he dealt the cards out after I won max bet on double after split. I did not tip him because I was still under water after that big hand. I think I was his target since I spread 1x to 16x and all others bet up to 4x. For a while, I was wondering if it might be a signal to the pit boss or camera, or he just wished me luck. This continued for another hour until a whale came to my table and he also didn't tip. Now the dealer pump at his spot before the dealing. Then I know he was not cheering to bring me luck.

I am more inclined to think he wanted me to feel guilty since one of the ploppies at the table bet $5 for him every hand until all his chips disappeared. And he was not being nice and gesturing towards him the same way.
