Ridiculous heat

hows it goin guys? well im a 23 year old BJ player. Anyway, the reason for my post is because i recieved some SERIOUS heat at a casino over in Yuma, Arizona this past weekend. I was down there visiting family and my buddy and i thought it would be fun to hit the tables. Anyway, my buddy only knows basic blackjack and even then he goes with his gut instinct, lol. I was using the halves system, and betting the minimun of 5 dollars per hand, once in awhile when the count was high enough i'd run two bets at 10 dollars each. It was hard enough keeping track of counting halves against 6 decks but then i had to start worrying about the manager, he came by and tried to start some "friendly conversation" regardin my luck streak. i played it off well enough but then i started goin through dealer after dealer. my bud and i went through approx. 7 dealers within an hour, each time a new shoe (they didnt even bother finishing the one already in play). Eventually, casino security came by to "browse" at my game play. I bought in with only 20 dollars and i was at 150 an hour later. I had to start making some "gut" bets just to stay at the table, i had about 30 sets of eyes on me while my buddy did modestly since all the heat was on me. After awhile i just gave up my strategy and went back down to about 60 dollars and i walked away. any thoughts on what i probably did wrong or didnt do enough of? some of the dealers were pretty hot and id flirt a bit, just to break the tension ya know, i was dressed in street clothes and had a pretty bad hair day, lol. I cant figure a reason for all the attention. maybe it was because it was a small casino or the fact that the table cleaned out 10 other players while my bud and i stayed with a nice chunk of change. any suggestions would highly be appreciated. thanks again

Some casinos are just owned by greedy bastards who think anyone who puts up a decent fight against them should be on America's Most Wanted list. God forbid anyone with half a brain sets foot in their doors!!!! Some casinos should put up a sign that says "Only the ignorant need apply"

Either that or the dealer you were hitting on was the casino owners daughter...who knows :D

Seems like these AZ casinos are like that. I get up a $100.00 or so at Cliff Castle and the pit is suddenly taking an interest in me. Guess the only way to stay below the radar is to be a loser all the time.

If the casino changed dealers 7 times in an hour the heat probably wasn't on you they must have been evaluating new dealers. That's a new dealer every 8.5 minutes. If you were only betting $5 and raising your bet in favorable counts to $10 and two spots that's a 4 unit increase. Against 6 decks that shouldn't raise any attention.

If this heat were directed at you for counting, this is a really clueless pit. Spreading from one hand of $5 to two hands of $10 is still a losing game against 6 decks, and it's not even close. Even if you spread to two hands of $40 your hourly profit number is quite low.

Some pits know almost nothing about how counting works, so it is possible they were concerned, but I'd probably look for other explanations. They may indeed have been 'auditioning' dealers.

My $.02 is that they could hardly have been concerned too much about you. At most casinos, you can play two spots but have to bet twice the minimum for two spots. I'm assuming that the minimum was $5. Your $10 on each of two spots would have been the absolute minimum you could have wagered.

it could've been the auditioning

Both Ken and Mike were right about the spreads. 5 was the minimum for a single hand and 10 was the minimum for a 2 spread. I guess I let the attention get to me a bit. Im not a seasoned veteran at BJ yet. I usually hit casinos in my area and earn a good chunk for a comfortable night out on the town. I guess it didnt help much that the tables were COMPLETELY dead that evening. The max bidding was 200 dollars. I was figuring my fluctuating interest wouldve have reached profitable margins if i would stayed for another hour or so. i was winning approx. 65-70 percent of the hands so it wouldve been a slow and steady climb. Unfortunately, my bankroll isn't that large otherwise i wouldve had at least 10 black chips on my side, then i would've walked, lol. Im still in college so money is a real BIG issue at this moment in time. On a different note,I was completely surprised on how some folk literally gambled their money away, all i could do was cheer um on, hahaha, i couldn't just say, "split that 8, we have a 7 count!!!, lol" . Here in LA i've crossed a few counters that were more than willing to team up. We'd usually cross at the tables, we give one glance at each other and we knew, so being discreet was quite easy. We are a rare bunch and im just proud to be a part of it. thanks for all your comments and suggestions guys.

I call BS on this post. Most this stuff you are saying doesnt make any sense. Hmm if i could win 65-70% of my hands for a "slow and steady climb" I would be betting max bets every hand. There isnt going to be any heat for someone playing 10dollars x2. you have crossed a few counters and team up with them? right...
