Your details are kind of sketchy. I am assuming you are talking a hard 17.
It's possible (but not likely) that it wasn't as crazy as you think.

Perhaps he saw the next card. Perhaps he counts and the count was at such a point as to make this the correct play. (I would have no idea what that number could be. Certainly well below a point that i would even be playing) lol Perhaps he has some specialty count that tracks 3's and 4's and there was an overwelming abundance of these. Perhaps he has a divorce hearing coming up and wishes to lose all his money beforehand rather than forfeit it to his wife. lol

What's the hi-lo index for 17 v 10?? Maybe he was keeping a side-count of 4s... ;)

Edit: Ah, you added the same thing to your post as I was posting mine. Really though, I'm kind of curious about how low the TC would have to be.

Twas hard 17.

He was some crazy redneck. If he was using any type of system it was the most amazing cover and deserves an Oscar.

Hmm.. now that I think about it.. I could probably learn something from this guy about acting like a complete lunatic..

bad blackjack!

Thats nothing the most ridicous ploppy move the player doubles down on hard 20! I have seen that twice once he pulled an ace for a twenty-one and once the ploppy busted with 30!

The worst pair split I have ever seen for "black action"

Last week I watched a ploppy [betting light black] who doubled EVERY Soft 13 through 16.

Curiously, he did NOT double his Soft 17's, 18's, and 19's.

BUT - his most amazing play was this:

Dismissively shouting "I don't care !" in response to the dealer asking him if he was "sure" that he was splitting, he splits FOURS against a dealer Ace !

He pulls another FOUR, resplitting to 3 hands.

He then proceeds to STAND on his three "stiff" hands.

The dealer flips over a 6 and hoovers up his six black chips.

I love to see these people lose, it almost gives me a Ha#d O*.

What I haven't seen yet is one of these idiots step back from the table and pull out a side arm and blow their brains out...looking forward to seeing it someday though.

At least he lost a lot of money, which is just.

What I find most annoying is when someone who plays like this WINS.

Sounds like he should have been playing at an H17 store!
