Rooms at Tropicana?

I am going to Vegas for about 5 days with the wife, mother in law, and our 3 year old. Since the Trop has some 5 dollar games I was thinking of staying there. I like to be right in the place I play as it makes it so easy to break and rest between sessions.

The others in my party will have quick access to all the things to see and do in the Trop area, ie MGM, Caesars, etc.

Anyone know how the rooms and service are at the Trop? Players club any good, easy to get food comps. I want to spread 5-60 and will avoid 3rd base although it is always my favorite. We are going the last week in July.

The Tropicana is a good choice if you are on a budget. The rooms could use a more modern decorating update, but they are clean and in good shape. I can't tell you about room service as I never took advantage of that. I like the tropical-themed pool area. You should note that while MGM is across the street, Caesars is a fair distance up the strip (requiring about a 20 minute walk or a cab ride).

I do not have any information about their players' club, but you are right that it is a good place to find $5 shoe games. I was able to spread 5-80 (occasionally 5-100) without drawing any noticeable heat, and kept my sessions to about 60-90 minutes.

Thanks for the quick reply. I will probably have games here just as good in Colorado when they raise the limit to $100 in July but there is nothing like the vibe of Vegas.

I really love staying in the place you are playing. You just leave your chips on the nightstand and have the flexibility to come and go as you please.

I do appreciate your information.

trop rooms

I think the best rooms in the trop are in the front tower and for a gambler they are the most convenient. Elevator just about lets you out at the main pit.
The back tower is a walk but if your family will be spending much of their time at the pool, the back tower is pool close and the rooms just a notch below the front tower and have those funky mirrors on the ceiling.
Back tower suites though are bigger and better than front tower suits but front tower suites have better strip views.

The rooms most people avoid are the Garden Rooms. These are leftover from the original rooms and though some have been renovated, overal they are old and some of the corridors have too much traffic as it is also an entry way for those who self park in the open lot facing the side of the MGM across the street. There are garden rooms that over-look the pool which might be a factor with kids.

Never stayed at the Tropicana before, but I'll second that Caesars Palace is not that close to Tropicana if you're hauling a 3-year-old in the middle of summer, especially during the day*. I gladly do the walk myself but I don't know if I'd put my family through that.

* I am prejudicially assuming that you want to go there during daytime hours because your wife wants to shop at the Forum Shops. :p

Best thing about the Trop is that a pool and hot tub are open 24 hrs a day. A rarity in Vegas. Though I stayed there while working insane hours during the day on a stupid event ... so I really appreciated being able to take a swim at midnight.

5-25? I've never seen such small table limits in Vegas. Wow. I suppose one could spread to 6-7 hands. :)

Are they worried about security at the pool table? Perhaps that explains the super low max bet? I can't think of other explanations.

Right. $5 min H17 most of the time (also many $15 tables), S17 will be $25 min, usually one table (often empty).

I haven't stayed at the Trop in a few years. The rooms seemed to get dirtier after Jung took over. The last straw was when my friend stayed there and found mildew all over the tub and shower. He complained and they told him to shove it.

I still frequent the Trop, but strictly for the games and that cheesy cover band that plays weekends in the Celebration Lounge :joker:
