hi there,
Ive been studing a few books about counting and have started learning the red7 count, having a good time learning it,great fun.
I know am getting ahead of myself a little bit here asking about seating postions(no where near ready to hit the felt) but am curious to find out what everybody thinks on the matter; most books ive read say that 3rd base is the best seat for counting cards which makes perfect sense, i.e your the last person to act giving you the most time to count the cards on layout, but doesnt this draw attention on yourself, do casinos look at 3rd base more than any other seat????
Also when the count is hi,say +5 using red7, being dealt last do you not miss alot of good cards with 6 people in front of you??? i.e after the last round you bet 4 units as the count was beyond pivot, but by the time the cards have been dealt the cards in front of you bring the running count back below the pivot again, having already bet big based on the round before, would it not be more of an advantage sitting in the middle seats to reduce the flux in the count in relation to the big bet youve put in?????

Would there be any other advantages sitting at a seat other than 3rd base??

I ask because the casino i go to has a floor manager standing directly to the left of 3rd base, about a metre away, all he does is stand and observe the 2 tables he is between. wish it was like america where u can just cross the road to another casino but its the only one within a 50 kilometre radius(uk)

any views on seating would be great.thanks

i would imagine the pit has some thoughts about the player at third base but IMHO it shouldn't keep you from taking that seat.
i find it easiest to play from third base. it gives me more time to figure my play. but if i can't get third base then i like 1st base. i can hardly tolerate sitting in the middle. when i do i must look like someone watching a tennis match. i feel as if it must look very suspicious. i don't have nearly as good vision as i once had so i pretty much need to look directly at the cards.
as far as any play advantage and seat position there really is no significant advantage that is seat dependent. well actually there was a study done that shows seat position one has an ever so slight advantage.

best regards,
mr fr0g :D

If it is SD or DD game 3rd base will be give you slightly a bigger edge when the cards are dealt face down assuming you are taking adv of basic strategy deviations. Shoe games not much of a difference except you will have little more time to think.

First base can be good for hole-card play, or ace tracking. You also don't have the hassle of dealing with the crazy ploppies telling you to stand on your 8!

I like third base because it gives me more time to think, and you don't have to turn your head to see everyone's cards. It is the stereo card counter spot though.

First base is good for the sightlines, but I always feel like I'm slowing down the game.

And actually, the middle isn't so bad, since at least then you don't have any hands really far away from you. You do get the "Wimbledon effect" though.

I sit on the side opposite of where I see the smoke drift because I f*****g hate smoke blown in my face. :flame:

I hate cigarette smoke too, but I like to seat at either 1st/3rd base so I can stretch out a little bit into the pit (good cover I would think, being the n00b with his left/right leg hanging back into the pit and bumping into their clipboard). It also gives your tablemates a little more room if you're playing at a full table. Being a big guy (vertically and horizontally! :)), I can appreciate having just a little more room at a table.
