Side count A's or 7's using hi-lo?

I am not a HILO user but a 7 side count would help a lot for many hand match ups. Aces are already included in the count so their addition while useful should be your second choice.

Similar to Hi-Lo, but easier, is Hi-Opt I.

It is a "level one" count specifically geared to ease of use
and the incorporation of multi-parameter side counts.

Just pick up a cheap (used) copy of The World's Greatest Blackjack Book.

To get a copy for as little as 75 ₵ (+ shipping) see:

Some of your weakest indices are weak because the key cards are zero point value cards. That means the card(s) most influencing the outcome of the hand when in surplus or deficit is not represented in your count. For HILO these cards are 7, 8 and 9. For soft doubling 13 or 14 the 7 is very important for you. For dealer stiffs 2, 3 and 4 the 7 is a very nice card for the dealer. If the dealer's up card is 9 or even 8 the chances of a 7 as his down card is very important knowledge especially when your hand really doesn't need a 7 like a 15 or 16. Knowing the surplus or deficit of sevens can be the deciding factor in these types of decisions.

You need someone who uses HILO with a 7 side count to tell you what is the value of each surplus 7 for each hand matchup. It will be a different number to multiply the surplus by to add to the running count before the TC can be calculated for that hand's index play.

Flash & Tthree,

I appricate both of your input, here's one more question I have. I understand how 7 can really hurt me and help the dealer, but how would Hi-opt I help in these situations? I mean, I can see how Hi-opt I is more helpful as it doesn't count the 2's and A's, so if I have a stiff hand like 16 against dealer's 7 upcard in a high count situation, I should still hit hoping to get the 2 or A, is that right? Then, how would side counting 7 help using hi-opt I then (Flash?) Thanks. I am still really new to the card counting. I can keep track of the counts pretty good now (I think), but I am still confused with a lot of the theories behind. Thanks again.

I think that valid multiparameter adjustment values for 7s, applicable to 6D HILO play can be gleaned from this report. BUT as a rule multiparameter adjusting is generally considered an advanced enhancement for 1-2D not 6D. On the other hand there have been sims done that suggest that it can improve 6D play more than predicted by most experts. >>

7s and 8s could also be counted as a single block value that would add some additional strength. zg
