This is just for pure amusement:

Does anybody know if you can lose every hand of a single deck blackjack game playing basic strategy? If so what are the odds to lose every hand this way?

The following rules apply:
1. Dealer deals all cards.
2. Player uses basic strategy only
3. Play is heads up
4. Dealer stands on all 17

Trust me, yes you can. At Sahara Tahoe in '72 I lost every hand except one (push) 4 decks in a row. That's definitely more than one single deck. I'll even bet that there are several of my shoe brethren here that can testify to something similar happening to them in a 6 deck game.

Yep!

Oh yeah, it can happen, and if you play long enough probably will. Of course every once in a while you just might win every hand too... I won every hand but one head to head one night. Second shuffle I lost two and pushed one. I promptly colored and grabbed a bite to eat before the pit critter came back by and saw that I had just one over 40 units in two pitches.

Have fun!

Making the assumption that 6 rounds are dealt and the count stays neutral. The chances of losing 6 hands in a row is just about 2%.

After 2 decks the PC wouldn't have cared less.

For BS players,

Those who flat bet will never have the edge over the house over the long term. Excluding pushes, we will win 47% of the hands and lose 53% of the hands (if we include pushes - we generally will win 43% tie 9% and lose the remaining 48%) - so the probability of losing 6 times in a row is : 0.53^6 = 0.02216 (equivalent to 2.2%).

The chance of winning six in a row (excluding pushes/stand-offs) will be 0.47^6 = 0.0107 (1.1% chance).

thanks...
I ran a bunch of sims and couldn't find one hand. I even tried to stack the deck and make myself lose...couldn't do it.

I was just curious...since I have never seen 100 percent penetration in a single deck game.

I didn't try stacking the deck, but I was able to lay out pairs of hands on my kitchen counter where the player lost every one. It was pretty easy. :p
