Six Deck shoes still available in LV?

Hi,

Its been a couple years since I've been to LV, and I was wondering if anyone could tell me if 6-deck shoes (not continuous shuffle) are still available in places like Mandalay Bay and MGM?

Atlantic City only has 8-deck shoes now and they suck. If LV has made the switch to 8-deck, my wife and I won't even go out there again.

Out of curiousity, why do you dispise the eight deck shoes so much, as compared to the six deck?

We play only a slightly modified Basic Strategy and with six deck shoes we do very well. We've played thousands at home.

My wife decided she wanted to give AC a try, but I was skeptical of the unfavorable rules common there. What ultimately shocked me however, was just how unfavorable the 8-deck shoes were.

We came back home, and switched to 8-deck, played hundreds of shoes and got wiped out every time. We switched back to six-deck and got back on track. We played the same LV rules on both 8-deck and 6-deck.

What we observed is that as the amount of face cards increased, the dealer won more hands outright, and busted less. With an 8-deck shoe, I can often go an entire shoe without winning a single hand. Not so with a 6-deck.

I've never seen an 8D shoe in Vegas. All shoes are 6D.

But you really need to rethink your strategy if you think it matters all that much, as well as reconsider your "modified basic strategy". Given your comments you probably aren't playing with much of an advantage, if any.

This was not true as of my last visit in March. The Venetian as well as some others have started using 8 decks. I believe The Venetian (and thus probably also the related Palazo) use only 8 decks. However, most of the MGM and Harrahs properties still offer some 6 deck games.

6D shoes go positive much more frequently than 8D shoes.

You are kind.
I've never seen anyone lose every hand of an 8d shoe before, yet alone on a constent basis. Thats some pretty bad luck. If your constently losing every hand of an 8D shoe, the casino is probably cheating. Grosjean talks about how this is possible in his new book

Huh, I didn't bother with the Venetian, I'm surprised they went 8D. I can assure you that all of the MGM properties use *only* 6D (and some DD) as of my last trip.

That's not true, they're equally likely to go positive (and negative). 8D just takes a bit longer to see more extreme TC's.

You haven't been looking very hard in AC. You can find 6 decks for $10+ at the Borgata and 6 dekcs for $25+ at Resorts, Trump Plaza and Tropicana.

MGM properties are now using a lot of 8D games. In fact Vegas is heading towards mostly 8D H17. It's a shame really, the games are going downhill fast. Soon you probably won't see too many 6 deckers outside of the VIP rooms.

In March Luxor had 8D. And Excalibur had plenty of 8D too.
Were the Excalibur 8Ds 6:5 blackjack too? When I visited in March, Excalibur had only 6:5 blackjack.

I am not kidding. The last time I played in AC, I sat down at a full table and proceeded to lose every hand from that shoe. My wife and I were in total shock. The last of my bank roll was gone, and we vowed to a) test 8-decks at home and b) never return to AC.

Just to show you I'm serious, I'll add a few nonsensical smileys to this thread.

Wow. At least they had a lively game of "beer pong" last time I walked through on my way to better places...
