slot dollar play

Whenever I get slot dollars, I always think "neat, free money". I pretty much just pick a 1c-5c machine arbitrarily and run it through.

But I've been thinking there's got to be a smarter way of playing my slot dollars. Specifically I'd love a lower-variance machine to have a little more "security" in getting something out of the dollars. What should I be looking for?

One cent machines generally have terrible payouts, many, many times worse than even nickle machines. Video poker being the exception.
If they have video BJ, thats a good option. Lacking that, I try to play 100 play VP. Video Roulette would be a good option if you can play Free Play on it. Many casinos won't let you play it on either VBJ or VRoulette.

100-play VP, interesting. I've seen those. I'll need to learn to recognize good pay tables for them though. Strategy I'm not too concerned with, I can print something up (I can read really small text so I can use something inconspicuous like an index card even for WoO's really detailed stuff).

VRoulette is even more curious. Is 5.26% HE really better than most other slot machines? Of course the variance is fantastic on that since it'd all be 1:1 payouts.

Most slots have much worse than 5.26%, if I'm not mistaken. If the free play coupon says that you must play through the credits once, find out exactly how many spins/hands it will take to go through the credits exactly one time, and then cash your credits at that point, regardless of the amount.

Don't know why, but that surprises me.

Oh definitely, every time :)

rrwoods............the above posters are absolutely correct..... Had a discussion with an acquaintance in a western area. There was a problem with a machine so he hung around and watched them work on it......The payout for this machine was 93%. He talked to the guys and they said all of their IGT slot machines like were set between 92 and 93%. This particular machine was an EBAY machine...you've seen them 5 or 6 seats and all linked together for group play. Kinda surprised me they at the payout was that high....
I have personally seen payouts on pennies at 15% HE. One of the very worst casino's is
Blue Chip casino in Indiana. Horrible all their slots. That is I believe still a Boyd Gaming company....
Video BJ is the way to go even if the bj's pay only even money....
I have noticed of recent a few casino's putting stipulations on freeplay as to which machines you can play it through...BASTARD's!!!!!:whip:
Probably if that is the case in your casino.....the comps and cash back arent that good anyways....
If you are forced to run it through a slot.......well good luck:laugh:

Casinos don't own all the machines in their gaming area. Some are owned, some are leased and some machines are owned by companies that pay the casinos a percentage of their take.
Casinos generally limit free play to their own machines.

I'll agree to the first part of them owning and leasing..... but as far as freeplay just to their own machines........Naw ...not even generally.....
But that could be a vegas thing altogether......
The midwest isnt like that .....especially Indian Casino's......
Your freeplay will play in 99% or better of the machines...
IGT got a huge bump in revenue when the theme based machines came out...basically they lease the machines and AND take a percentage of the take!!!! So when you start looking at the HE of some machines.....especially a beatable bonus machine....my god the poor ploppies dont have a chance if they never get that bonus... They basically are playing a machine that is 30% against them....
Smaller indian casino's really dont have very many of their Own Machines....a very large part are leased....But at times you will see some really old machines that they do own...

There is a company that deals exclusively with the indians and represents IGT i believe....dang cant remember the company....
A great web site for indian gaming is http://www.indiangaming.com
Excellent site ...good reading..

slot dollars

That's the funny thing about Indian casinos over others slot dollars. You can play vp with slot dollars in indian casinos but not in others. I have to play my slot free play in other than vp machines and hope it pans out so I can cash it in for hard cash. Sometimes it's profitable and sometimes not at the civilian casinos I take it as a nesasary evil to gain an advantage.
