Splitting 8's

I use bs and do not count cards. I play a few times a year for enjoyment. I was wondering is it better to surrender 8,8 against a ten or ace or to split them? I play in a six deck shoe most of the time.I also would like to know the difference between early and late surrender. I am trying to give the house the smallest % I can without counting cards.

If you're not counting, you would always split 8's. But if you are counting, you surrender them against 10 if the count is positive.

There is a helpful Basic Strategy generator that can give you this information. Click "Basic Strategy Engine" on the left sidebar. The BS for a typical 6-decker will come up and then you can use the controls in the sidebar to change the rules.

To answer your questions: Surrendering 8,8 vs ten or ace is not the right play after the dealer has peeked, but if you have early surrender (that is, you're allowed to surrender before the dealer peeks), then you should surrender 8,8 vs both ten and ace.

Basic strategy is a great way to get that house edge as low as possible :)

As I understand it if you're a b.s. player and the dealer hits a soft 17 in a shoe game surrender 8,8 vs Ace.:joker:

Always late surrender 8,8 v A in 4 thru 8 decks with H17 whether NDAS or DAS.

Never do it with S17.

Never late surrender 8,8 vs 10 in 4 thru 8 decks whether H17 or S17 or whether NDAS or DAS.

This is for BS, not counting.

It's not entirely true for 1 or 2 decks.

It has nothing to do with Early surrender.

Basically, just look up the BS for whatever game and rules before you play.

It's everywhere.

Playing as little as you say you play, screwing it up probably won't matter that much anyway lol.
