Hello again everyone,

I just signed up to get Ken's news letter and wth it came the top 10 mistakes players make in blackjack. One of them was splitting 8's against a dealers 10.
It said you should, which is correct basic stragety. But I got to thinking about if you were playing a surrender game, what would be the correct move, surrender or split?

If it's late surrender, I believe you still split them. But it's pretty close.

You still split. The basic strategy engine on this site has an option for generating rules when surrender is allowed, check it out and verify it for yourself.

You still split against 10 in neutral and negative counts.
Against A, I believe you surrender at all counts.
At ~+4 counts then you surrender your pair.

someone correct me if i'm wrong.

Snyder's Hi-Lo Lite has you surrender 8-8 v 10 in any positive count whether a late surrender or early surrender game, but he does round his index numbers.
If no surrender, the count at which to stand rather than split is TC8, again rounded to the nearest even number.

Renzey has surrender 88 v. 10 at pivot (unbalanced system). Against A in S17 split like BS says and surrender almost ALL of the time in H17. (By all the time, his surrender number here is 3 below pivot at DD and 9 below pivot in shoe, so if you're wonging-pretty much read that on H17 surrender ALL of the time). Pg. 158 in Blackjack Bluebook II.

that's right, the surrender 8,8 v A is H17 dependent.

I haven't played in over 2 months i'm getting rusty!

Oh no, not the crazy eights again :whip:

These plays are probably the most confusing in all of the blackjack plays. Heres why!

1. Its contingent, of number of decks in play.

2.Its contingent, wether or not dealer hits S17.

3. Its contingent, whether DAS is allowed.

4:Then if your counting, its contingent of the count.

Also note: Unlike other hands, when we have 88vsA the higher the count, the LESS likely we are to Sr!

Kinda like when we have a high count, were less likely to split a pair of 33vs7 and a pair 88vsX opposite, of how were MORE likely to split all other pairs the higher the count is.
Sometimes i wonder, if this is how crazy8s got its name.
