WOuld it be advantageous for dealer to stand on 16?
If dealer stands on 16, should basic strategy be altered, and how?

16

Standing on 16 would most likely favor the house because the dealer will bust less often. So if the dealer has a 6 up and you have 15 and he flips over 16, you're shit outta luck and lose.

The only advantage I see for the player is the fact that 17 could now win without the dealer busting.

It would alter BS slightly as now you would have a reason to be hitting against a 6. But hitting more stiffs vs a dealer 6 will most likely result in players busting more often, further adding to house advantage.

Generally think of it this way: If the house is offering some odd rule/sidebet to the regular game of blackjack, chances are it favors them.

Never seen that game offered.

I have never seen a dealer stand on 16 "unless it is a mistake." Basic stragedy would be altered if the dealer stood on 16 my guess is the player would hit more often because hands of 17-21 would win more when the dealer stands on 16. Hands of 12-15 would win even less than they do now. Hands of 16 would push more and win the same.

It is true that the dealer would bust less but busting is the one advantage that the house has over the player. Even though the basic stragedy player busts 30% less than house the house still has the advantage. Why you hit a 15 vs a 10 and bust and 25% of the time the dealer will flip over a little card hit his stiff and bust. Where you wrong to hit your 15 vs the dealer ten no because 75% of the time the dealer will make a hand and you will need to beat it.
