Strange Occurence

I've only been an AP for roughly two years, and combined with that my schedule doesn't allow me to play a great deal so I do not have a great deal of casino exposure. However, I was wonging in and out of a few games yesterday making a few $ here and there when this dealer whom I had visited a couple times that day slipped me a white chip. The previous hand I busted and naturally the dealer took my bet and my cards. I then placed another bet in the circle as the table finished and as the dealer was paying the table he slipped a white chip next to my stack of reds. Feeling a bit confused I collected the chip, just in time to catch a bj on the next hand. I gladly returned the favor and tipped the dealer back after the well timed bj. I never could get back to that table to see if it was just a mistake or if the dealer was trying to create a financial relationship. I really don't see how it could have been a mistake b/c like I said I had no cards in front of me, just a stack of chips for the next round.

It sounds like you lost that first hand, right?

So, the dealer placed a bet for him/herself out of the stack of toke chips?

That's probably not recommended at most places.

Right, I lost the first hand.

But how could he do that? I could understand if he pulled the chip from his own personal tokes, but this came from the rack.

Now don't get me wrong. It was just a buck, so it's not that big of a deal, but to the casino every $ is a big deal it seems.

I was just wondering if he was trying to send a subliminal message, or if he had some sort of hidden agenda.

Like I said, I've never encountered anything of the such. I was just a little surprised.

The only thing I've seen remotely like that was a guy betting two blacks on a $199 max table. When he lost, the dealer would take the two blacks and give a white in change. I'm guessing that probably wasn't the case here, though.

The only honest reason I could think of would be if the dealer was returning a toke bet placed to late, or at least thought he was, or was making change or something.

At one place I tossed the dealer a toke late, just after he started dealing. He immediately slapped it back at me, like a hockey goalie. Only afterwards did he ask "oh, was that a tip?"
