I am always concerned about violence by casino security guards against me, especially in Las Vegas where there have been so many violent incidents, and at Eldorado in Reno, where a guard killed a patron a couple of years ago. Now this!

MGM creates ‘civilian version of a SWAT team’ following Las Vegas shooting
... The former Metro and military officers will spearhead the response to any emergencies at MGM’s properties and train other security personnel. Each supervisor will work with a specific MGM resort but will be capable of working at its other properties. Trainers will not be tied to specific properties.
This seems absolutely insane to me. Will removing a drunk become an "emergency"? How about backing off an AP? Remember the shooting into a car windshield by a guard in the parking garage of South Point? The guard was never criminally charged.
Though the leaders initially hired may be qualified, how are they going to fill out the ranks with competent people? Cronyism?
With the generally lawless culture of casino security departments, how can they be trusted to perform properly and not be overzealous? If someone doesn't come to their senses and stop this idiocy, I think this will eventually end in a totally avoidable tragedy.
