Sugarhouse and the surrender option

At the Sugarhouse casino, I picked up the house phone and spoke to
the commissions office, which is located on the second floor.
He told me to come up to the second floor, but I refused out of fear.
He was actually really pleasant and professional on the phone, though.
He asked me for the reference regarding the surrender option, but
I told him that I didn’t know the web URL link off the top of my head.
Later after I got home, I called the Pennsylvania gaming control board
located in Harrisburg (717) 346-8300.
She also asked me for the reference. While on the phone, I did a quick
google search but found nothing!!!
She said to take what I read on the web with a grain of salt.
When you guys complained about Mount Airy Casino, did they ask for
references and documents?

Interesting. Suppose we kept a log of every hand we asked to surrender but refused, and lost. Then complained to the board, but with a dollar amount! That might get their attention, and it sounds like EV too.

The floor supervisor clearly said that I can re-split all
hands, including Aces, up to total of three hands.
However, the Ace gets only one card, so I can’t hit or
double down after splitting (or re-splitting) Aces.

Ah, so it is RSA! That's not as powerful as LS, but it is still a very desirable rule. They're dealing MGM Strip rules, once we get the LS straightened out.

Yes, indeed. It's better BJ than east coasters have seen for a while. But will it last? Being the closest competition to AC, with harrah's chester and sugarhouse little more than an hour away, someone is likely to change at some point. Skeptics think Pa games are likely to get worse, but I am still an optimist and think (and hope) that at some point AC will wake up and realize they no longer have the monopoly they enjoyed for years and decide to 'compete' for the customers they have lost.

Fear not PA BJ players. As of earlier today, the "surrender problem" has been taken care of at Sugarhouse. After a complaint today, the resident casino control commissioner spoke with Sugarhouse management and the table games supr. (Rose) sent a memo to all her pit people that LS is required game option. As was the case at Mt. Airy, the problem should now be gone.

21forme, thanks for this good news. I was waiting to have surrender option before visiting this new casino:).

I have found that whoever answers the phone at the gaming commission doesn't know **** from shinola. you have to ask for a gaming agent.

Wow, so my advice to call gaming actually worked!?!? I'm gonna have to start charging for my services.:whip::joker:

Keep you wallet in your pocket, Jack_ :) It wasn't a phone call that fixed the problem. It was an on site meeting with the gaming agent at the casino.

No. In PA and NJ, there is a gaming agent on-site with an office in each casino.

God damnit! I was in that casino playing for 2 hours, didn't get one hand I could surrender, I had the pa code pulled up on my blackberry ready to make a huuuuuge scene. Now I can't even go back to try again. I also only played like ten hand because of negetive shoes but its still uber lame.

Ferret, the problem should be fixed. You could have surrendered your 20 v dealer 6. it would have provided great camo

Super good to hear! Thanks, guys, for keeping on this!

In an unrelated note about Sugarhouse, I sat next to a Philly resident today at B who told me the clientele is less than desirable at SH. The reason she cited was that the locals around the are of SH did not want the casino built and will not patronize it, so the draw at least in the beginning has been to a lower "class" of individual. Can anyone verify that? I don't subscribe to it--just passing it on for whatever it's worth.

The high-limit pit is very posh. It even has its own cashier, and a separate lounge so the high-rollers can just sit and relax.
The high-limit pit was packed despite the $100 minimum. The crowd here is less uncivilized than the crowd on the general floor.
However there was a young African American male with a baseball cap backwards, wearing lots of gold on the fingers and wrists,
and sneakers without laces, and he was betting purple. No, I’m not a racist! I’m just giving you an observational description.
Aside from that, several Asian women wearing diamond rings the size of a disco ball.
And several older white males wearing a white shirt and a tie. They looked very corporate.

AC is too stupid or afraid to compete. We've seen in the last few years the farthest they're willing to go to compete (4 decks at the Trop and DD H17 at the Hilton) Both places claimed to have lost money when they offered those games, so I have doubts we're going to ever see anything better than what PA is currently offering. Instead, the prevailing thought there is to make the games as bad as they can with the goal of milking the uninformed for as much as they can. We can see that this has been the trend as Resorts and Trump Marina are now charging antes for some of their games. HET properties obviously have done very well with their 8 deck H17 games or else they would have been long gone. Unfortunately, with only maybe I'd guess 3-5% of the players knowing how the different rules affect them, they can afford to keep offering bad or even worse games.

If I were you, I'd enjoy the games currently offered for as long as you can because I suspect it won't be long until the casinos protest to the state to have the rules changed.

So let's see, what will be my disguise? White shirt and tie? Or burnt cork and baseball cap?

I think I'll try the latter, the burnt cork can be used to mark cards too.

No seriously, how is this different from AC, besides that there were white males in ties on our side of the table?
