Thankless dealers

This is not about AP per se so I put it in the general subtopic.

What do you do with a dealer when you bring in a quick 80 bucks on one shoe and leave them with a dollar and they act crappy about it like they should get a five at least.

Would you keep up the small tip now and then or just totally cut off the tips?

I suppose it depends on how crappy they acted.

I usually leave about a buck after a win or after the shoe but I wont be pushed.

Do you think cutting off the tips just makes for a bad climate.

They do control the 6d penetration.

For what it's worth, I'm a newbie to this (CC) but have had an incredible first 6-8 weeks. If this helps you at all: I was playing DD where the dealer was doing aprox. 65% penetration. I got hot and went up about $600.00 off of a $1,000.00 buy in to start the game, I hit a couple BJ's and said " let's get the dealer in this game" and put a $5 chip on every spot on the table ( 5 spots) dealer happens to bust and wins, dealer thanks me very graciously. Maybe 5 min. later the count turns very positive midway thru ( also I noticed penetration went closer to 70-75%, tip help?) I fired away on my 2 spots at 8x my normal bet to start a shoe, I didn't get a checks play yelled out. So I'm not saying to tip the dealer, but do you think my tips helped my cover and increased my chances of winning by the penetration? Draw your own conclusions.

You have a great point and I agree to some extent.

One of my concerns is that if you ramp it up too much then you have to maintain a high tip level and when the cards are getting bad I hope the dealers wont push for the tip.

But was the extra penetration worth the $25 tip? If your average bet is $64 then you would break even on the exchange after tipping $25/hour (although the increased risk would really hurt you). If your average bet is under $64 then you have lost money and gained extra risk on the exchange. I agree that tipping can sometimes be a good move, but you have to know when to tip and how much to tip in order to take advantage of the situation. You don't want to give up more than you gain.

Tipping while leaving a table is often not mission-effective. Since you're leaving, it's not like you could really affect the dealer's treatment of you anyway. Plus, it's hard, after a big win, to leave a tip that's cost-effective and doesn't make you a cheapskate.

The only time I think about doing that nowadays is if I played a while at the table, didn't tip the dealer any during that stretch, but the dealer is genuinely okay and someone I'd want to tip (from a service perspective, not an AP perspective)

All I will say is this: when I tip I don't often hear "Checks play" But you do have to be very careful and not overdo it. I like to tip when they change dealers and I say thank you to the departing dealer so that the new dealer is aware of the tip and my "appreciation" Like I said, you hear "Checks play" alot less. Hey-those guys and gals are there to make MONEY-right?

You know, it's kind of funny to see a table with only two players. One is serious, grumpy, never tips, generally doesn't talk except for the occasional profanity, and is generally abusive to the dealer on bad beats. The other is jovial, talkative, polite, and even tips occasionally.

Guess which one is the AP?

Guess which one didn't get better penetration?

If a dealer gives you attitude, stop tipping. They are tipped employees, and if they can't learn to smile and hustle a little, they don't deserve to get paid. I have no sympathy for people who work for tips, and expect a tip when they give poor service.
